As a Senior Group Underwriter, you will work within a team of skilled and energetic employees like yourself, you will collaborate with the Group Insurance Pricing team to ensure that Medavie Blue Cross achieves its financial objectives for group health, life, and disability insurance sectors.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Establish pricing during the request‑for‑proposal process
  • Establish renewal pricing
  • Establish pricing for benefit modifications
  • Draft financial agreements and prepare related financial reports
  • Negotiate files with group insurance advisors
  • When required, meet with market intermediaries or clients alongside the group insurance advisor to explain and negotiate files
  • Participate in the ongoing training of junior and intermediate underwriters
  • Provide technical support to other departments of the company
  • Perform any other related tasks or general duties required by the role
     

The Ideal Candidate Would Have the Following Skills

  • A post‑secondary degree in business administration, mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, or finance
  • 5-10 years experience in group insurance pricing
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word
  • Excellent reasoning, judgment, and decision‑making abilities
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time‑management skills and the ability to work in a constantly changing environment with multiple tasks and priorities
  • Excellent negotiation skills and a passion for teamwork
  • Proficiency in English and French is required to perform the duties of this position, as it involves daily collaboration with teams and partners outside of Quebec who primarily communicate in English.

Salary Range: $91,831 to $101,014 (CAD)

The Base Pay range may vary depending on the successful candidate or other relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and education/training. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Medavie employees may participate in various performance-based incentive programs.
