I’m supporting a fast-growing and well-funded product company in the AI infrastructure space, and their Pre-Sales Engineer position for the West Coast feels like a strong match for your background.
They build one of the most widely adopted vector databases in the market, used by teams at Disney, Microsoft and Twitter, plus hundreds of smaller companies building real AI products. They’ve grown to around 100 people, fully distributed, with a very technical, hands-on culture.
The role sits at the intersection of architecture, problem-solving and customer interaction. You’d work with companies already exploring the product and help them evaluate it properly. Typical activities include:
Understanding use cases and turning vague ideas into clear requirements
Shaping realistic PoCs (storage models, querying patterns, performance expectations)
Guiding teams through architectural decisions and explaining trade-offs
Running demos and technical sessions
Acting as the main technical point of contact during evaluations
The key requirement is a strong foundation in databases: relational, NoSQL, search engines, indexing fundamentals. You don’t need to write production code, and you don’t need a specialised ML background. What matters is how well you understand data systems and how clearly you can communicate with both engineers and product teams. Everything else (RAG, LLMs, cloud) is useful but not essential.
It’s a 100% remote role in the US (West Coast), with occasional travel for customer sessions or internal events.
Compensation is in the 160 to 180k USD base range plus stock options, with high ownership thanks to the team’s size and seniority.
