About the Project 

Tobii Dynavox is seeking a highly qualified Linguistic and Childhood Language Development specialist to support the development and review of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) content for a specific target-language community. This project is critical in ensuring that AAC content is linguistically and culturally meaningful, relevant, and aligned with real-world communication needs. We are looking to fill this role with an immediate start.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Contribute knowledge and expertise to childhood language development in the target language 

  • Help develop a lexical database that organizes words by part of speech and morphological form 

  • Support the evaluation and selection of existing lexical data sources 

  • Review lexical data for errors and make corrections as needed 

  • Collaborate closely with software developers and AAC content experts to define language-specific software features and expected behaviors based on the syntactic and grammatical structure of the target language 

  • Review the software product and AAC implementations to ensure that vocabulary, grammar, and syntax in the target language are well supported for children’s communication needs. 
     

Required Qualifications 

  • Native speaker of the target language 

  • Fluency in English 

  • Background in linguistics and childhood language development 

  • Strong understanding of the grammatical structure and morphology of the target language, with the ability to discuss complex linguistic concepts with English-speaking developers 

  • Strong knowledge of research on language development and vocabulary acquisition in the target language for typically developing children 

  • Conceptual understanding of AAC principles and how vocabulary, grammar, and language development are represented in AAC systems 
     

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Familiarity with AAC vocabulary organization, content design, or communication support tools for children 

  • Experience reviewing lexical resources, language data, or language-focused software products 

Project Commitment 

  • The project is estimated to require up to 200 hours in total over a period of approximately 9 months, with an expected workload of up to 20 hours per week, depending on the project phase 

  • This includes ongoing collaboration with developers, with two weekly meetings (30–60 minutes each).  

  • The remaining time is expected to be dedicated to independent, self-directed work.  

  • The work will be performed remotely, with meeting times aligned to Stockholm (CET). 

  • Scheduling is expected to be flexible within the agreed project timeline. 

  • This is an independent contractor role. This engagement does not constitute an employment relationship. Contractors are responsible for managing their own taxes.
