The Opportunity

This Engineering Manager, Cloud Software Platform Practice position can work out remotely within the U.S.

The Engineering Manager, Cloud Software Platform Practice leads and develops a team of cloud software engineers responsible for the platform capabilities that power our digital ecosystem for healthcare professionals (HCPs), patients, and caregivers. The Cloud Platform Practice delivers and evolves cloud-based services, APIs, medical data platforms, messaging and event-streaming technologies, and other shared platform capabilities.

Partnering with the Cloud Platform Practice Owner, Product leaders, and technical stakeholders, this role translates strategy into execution, supports delivery commitments, and fosters a culture of trust, inclusion, innovation, and continuous learning. The Engineering Manager provides coaching, removes barriers, and helps engineers grow while maintaining strong engineering standards and platform reliability.

Reporting to the Cloud Platform Practice Owner, the Engineering Manager is accountable for building a high-performing team, balancing delivery with long-term platform sustainability, and driving reliable, secure, and scalable solutions that create business and customer value.

What You’ll Work On

  • Lead and develop a team of cloud software engineers by providing coaching, mentoring, feedback, and growth opportunities aligned with organizational objectives.

  • Model team-first leadership by empowering engineers to lead initiatives, recognizing contributions, and fostering accountability for team outcomes.

  • Create an inclusive and psychologically safe environment that encourages collaboration, continuous learning, innovation, and respectful challenge.

  • Collaborate with the practice to support hiring, onboarding, succession planning, and knowledge-sharing activities that strengthen organizational capability.

  • Learn and improve our existing Go-based healthcare platforms.

  • Design and implement services and components utilizing Go for cloud-based platforms.

  • Develop high-volume, low-latency services for a global healthcare platform.

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop and integrate APIs that empower users to share and utilize their medical data in partner systems.

  • Collaborate directly with Information Security teams to design and implement secure solutions.

  • Ensure platform performance, scalability, reliability, and uptime while maintaining high standards of engineering quality.

  • Contribute to significant architectural and operational decisions in collaboration with Architecture and Platform leadership.

  • Support delivery commitments by identifying capacity constraints, risks, dependencies, and execution challenges, while communicating progress and tradeoffs to stakeholders.

  • Partner with technical product owners and business stakeholders to align priorities, remove barriers, and ensure successful delivery of platform capabilities.

  • Balance near-term delivery goals with long-term platform sustainability through investments in quality, security, observability, operability, performance, and technical debt reduction.

  • Encourage pragmatic experimentation and innovation by evaluating new ideas based on customer needs, technical evidence, risk, and expected value.

  • Build trusted relationships across Product, Security, Quality, Regulatory, and other business and technology teams.

  • Lead technical planning, design reviews, and engineering best practices across the Cloud Software Platform Practice.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, making recommendations that support innovation and business objectives.

  • Support company initiatives and comply with FDA and other applicable global regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, other relevant field or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum 8 years of related experience or a Masters degree and 6+ years of related experience.

  • A leadership approach grounded in humility, curiosity, accountability, and service to the team.

  • Experience supporting engineers who work across multiple product teams, programs, or matrixed organizational structures.

  • Software engineering experience with cloud-based or distributed systems and sufficient technical fluency to understand context, ask effective questions, and participate credibly in architecture, risk, and delivery discussions.

  • Ability to coach engineers in problem-solving, judgment, and professional growth while fostering a shared mentoring model in which Principal, Staff, Senior, and other engineers contribute their technical expertise.

  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining highly complex asynchronous messaging and backend processing jobs.

  • Experience contributing to a scalable architecture/design of existing and new systems that are highly available and easy to maintain and monitor.

  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining highly complex asynchronous messaging and backend processing jobs.

  • Experience translating business and product goals into engineering priorities, delivery plans, and measurable outcomes.

  • Ability to balance delivery speed with reliability, security, quality, maintainability, and long-term platform health.

  • Comfortable working asynchronously with a distributed team

  • Strong written, verbal, and listening skills, including the ability to communicate technical choices, risks, and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong Computer Science fundamentals and experience with software development.
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading teams that build production software in Go or another modern cloud-native language.

  • Experience with public-cloud platforms and managed database, messaging, event-streaming, API, and service technologies.

  • Experience treating an internal platform as a product, with a focus on developer experience, adoption, reliability, and measurable value.

  • Experience with agile product development and modern software engineering practices, including automated testing, continuous delivery, observability, and secure development.

  • Experience in digital health, medical devices, or another regulated industry.

  • Experience developing software products subject to FDA or comparable regulatory requirements.

The base pay for this position is

$99,300.00 – $198,700.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
