Material Bank® Europe

E-commerce & Online Marketplaces

Material Bank is the world’s largest marketplace for searching, sampling, and specifying architecture, design, and construction materials. The service launched in Europe in spring 2023, allowing architects, interior designers, and corporate buyers to browse collections from over 200 European and global manufacturers. Combining a powerful platform with efficient logistics, approved members can order paint, flooring, textiles, ceramics, tiles, acoustics, and wallcovering samples for free. Shipping to 29 European countries from the Material Bank logistics hub next to Paris-Charles De Gaulle Airport, they receive their chosen samples in one box the next day, saving design professionals valuable time. In addition to improving the speed of searching and sampling materials, Material Bank provides a sustainable solution by aggregating samples from multiple brands into a single box, and to date, has eliminated more than three million packages from being shipped in the US. Material Bank Europe is part of Material Bank, which launched in the US in 2019 and was named as one of Business Insider’s Hottest Proptech Startups and Forbes’ Best Startup Employers. In the US, Material Bank saw rapid adaption by the design community, with over 110,000 approved members using the platform, including users at more than 90% of the top 200 largest architectural and design firms and 20% of Fortune 1000 companies

Operating in 37 countries, our platform has become the standard for design professionals around the globe. Every day, Material Bank connects thousands of designers with tens of thousands of materials from leading brands. Material Bank is the fastest and most powerful way for design professionals to search and sample materials.

Material Bank is seeking a senior Privacy & Product Counsel to join our Legal team as the company’s second lawyer. This is a builder’s role with significant ownership and visibility across the organization. You’ll advise the business on a broad range of legal matters, with particular focus on the questions that arise where product, data, privacy, marketing, and commercial partnerships meet.

You’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering, Design, Marketing, Sales, People, and other teams to help the company move quickly while managing legal and regulatory risk thoughtfully. You’ll also help build the processes, templates, playbooks, and systems that allow a small legal team to scale effectively.

This role suits someone who combines strong legal judgment with a practical, business-oriented mindset. You’re comfortable working outside your immediate area of expertise, prioritizing in a fast-moving environment, and finding solutions where the answer isn’t always obvious.

What you’ll do

  • Lead Material Bank’s data privacy strategy and compliance efforts (e.g., CCPA, GDPR, and emerging U.S. and international privacy regimes), including owning our privacy notices, advising on data collection, use, retention, and handling practices, conducting privacy impact assessments, and supporting incident response protocols.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Design teams throughout the product development lifecycle to provide practical legal guidance on new products and features, consent workflows, data collection mechanisms, user agreements, and regulatory requirements.
  • Advise the Marketing team on consumer protection, advertising, endorsements, promotions, CAN-SPAM, TCPA, FTC guidance, and other customer-facing legal requirements.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including customer and vendor agreements, data processing terms, NDAs, marketing and sponsorship agreements, technology agreements, and strategic partnership arrangements.
  • Help build and improve legal operations, including template and playbook development, contract management, legal intake, knowledge management, workflows, automation, and internal processes.
  • Leverage AI and legal technology to automate repetitive work, improve legal service delivery, and help the Legal team scale.
  • Provide practical legal guidance on matters outside your core areas of expertise, which may include corporate transactions, employment matters, intellectual property and trademark issues, disputes, etc.

What you’ll bring

Required:

  • JD from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, or eligibility to register as in-house counsel where required.
  • 5+ years of relevant legal experience, including meaningful in-house experience (ideally at a high-growth technology company).
  • Strong substantive experience in data privacy and product counseling.
  • Working experience in marketing/consumer protection and commercial contracts.
  • Strong legal judgment and the ability to translate complex legal requirements into clear, practical business guidance.
  • Experience operating in resource-constrained or fast-moving environments where prioritization, judgment, and adaptability are essential.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and comfort taking ownership of matters that may fall outside your existing expertise.

Preferred:

  • CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or another privacy certification, but equivalent substantive experience is equally valued.
  • Experience building or scaling legal processes, templates, playbooks, contract management systems, or other legal operations infrastructure.
  • Comfort using AI-assisted legal tools and a bias toward automating repetitive work.

What you’ll get from us:

  • Our people: We are a growth-driven team that values efficiency, builds smart automation, operates in small empowered teams, and moves quickly from idea to execution.
  • Relaxation and Celebrations: Flexible PTO, Sick Days, Paid National Holidays, and even more (ask us about this when we connect).
  • Health Benefits: We contribute to your medical, dental, vision and short-term/long-term disability plans and have a strong employee assistance program.
  • Plan for your Retirement: 401(k) eligible after your first 90 day's employed!
  • Giving Back: We sponsor multiple events throughout the year to help out our communities.
  • Growth: We’ll help you take your career to the next level. We want you to be creative and take initiative which will allow you to grow and create within the company. Most importantly, be the best at what matters!
  • Flexible Work Schedules: With business units and employees across the globe, Material Technologies has embraced a hybrid  working model allowing department leaders to decide on the best approach for their respective teams, whether that be remote, in person, or a little of both.

Material Bank is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity, and all applicants will be considered for employment without attention to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, national origin, veteran or disability status or other status protected under any applicable federal, state or local law.
