Job description

This is a remote position.

The Coding Educator is responsible for creating and delivering education to the Coding Team (including vendors), Clinical Documentation Nurses, Physicians, and other licensed providers to improve the quality of documentation to assure best quality performance and representation of care provided. In addition, the educator collaborates with the CMOs to ensure the integrity of the Health Record is established through best practices in Clinical Documentation and Coding.  Monthly monitoring of the clinical dashboard demonstrating improvement in statistical targets.         

The Coding Quality Auditor is responsible for assuring coding guidelines and regulations are not compromised during the decision-making process for code assignment that is representative of the care provided.  The Coding Quality Auditor is responsible for collaborating with Operational Coordinators and Coding Educators to identify targets for coding quality improvement and to ensure that coding education is effective.

 

This position is 100% remote

Coding Educator:

§  Communicates with Leadership across the regions to develop educational programs that address the identified opportunities to improve clinical dashboard results

§  Identifies strategic plans that will positively impact the clinical dashboard

§  Through relationship development across the regions identifies and secures interdepartmental support and other resources necessary for successful origination and implementation of education strategy initiatives in order to achieve overall strategic targets

§  Analyzes dashboard and audit data to derive conclusions and construct action plans

§  Collaborates with the Pre-bill team to identify areas of opportunity for education

§  On boards new staff on coding protocols

§  Develops teaching tools to promote quality outcomes

 

Coding Quality Auditor:

§  Performs monthly, quarterly, and/or yearly audits of coding and vendor support staff as determined by coding leadership

§  Performs other audits as requested by coding leadership or other departments

§  Analyzes dashboard and audit data to derive conclusions and recommends action plans

§  Attends meetings as requested by coding leadership



Requirements

Required:

  • RHIT or RHIA or CCS
  • Associates Degree – Healthcare related
  • Five years of coding experience and/or two years in auditing in area of expertise
  • Awareness of the financial impact of denials
  • Knowledge of APC reimbursement (Outpatient)
  • Strong personal computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Proficiency in using coding software and electronic health records (HER) systems
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Planning and time management skills
  • Educational/training experience
  • Audit experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in related field or currently enrolled in AHIMA RHIT – HIM Program

Population Served:

  • Physicians/Licensed Providers
  • Clinical Documentation Specialists
  • Coders (inpatient, outpatient, internal & external)

Salary: Equal Pay Act Minimum Range: $29.00 - $51.00 per hour
