Overview

We are seeking Assistant Resident Engineer for an Active Travel scheme in Co. Meath, from August 2026 until January 2027, with scope for future roles thereafter.

The candidate should be self-motivated, enthusiastic, hardworking, flexible, willing to take responsibility, and comfortable working with others in a team and taking directions from senior team members. The candidate will have ideally had some experience on construction sites (summer internship, or more).

Your role

The role will involve site-based supervision, contract administration, reporting, monitoring and inspection of construction activities; under the guidance of an experienced Senior Resident Engineer. 

About you

Desirable skills

  • Level 7 or Level 8 Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Relevant years of experience in the civil engineering industry; ideally with some construction phase involvement in the supervision & administration of Public Works Contract for Civil Engineering Works.
  • Computer literate and with experience of relevant software (AutoCAD or similar) and Microsoft Office programmes.
  • Experience in administering contracts using the Public Works form of contracts; including processing of Valuations, and assessment of Claims.
  • Experience in supervising and inspecting the construction of roadworks including pavement, drainage, structures, ducting, signage, lighting, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Experience in record keeping and reporting on Contractor’s progress.
  • Ability to work within a team and also work independently and under own initiative to achieve project goals.
  • Knowledge of current H&S regulations and best practices.
  • Full driving licence and a valid SafePass.
