Senior Accountant

This is a remote position.

We are seeking an experienced and prolific Remote Senior Accountant to join our client’s finance team. The Senior Accountant will be a critical, full-time remote role responsible for the successful execution of our core accounting cycles, financial reporting preparation, and compliance filings. This role requires a hands-on approach to managing the period close process and deep expertise in general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, and tax reporting.

This is a full-time, contractual, freelancer position for a trial period of 3 months while working at home. If you are a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with experience and qualified based on the criteria below, we encourage you to apply. 

• Period-End Close & General Ledger Management
  

• Lead, execute, and manage the full monthly and quarterly financial close cycle, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of financial data.
  
• Assist with the preparation and review of comprehensive balance sheet reconciliations, including bank, vendor accounts, and other complex general ledger accounts.
  
• Manage the full fixed asset lifecycle, including establishing capitalization policies, recording assets, and running the depreciation process.
  
• Prepare and book critical journal entries related to inventory and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS).
  

• Accounts Payable and Transactions
  

• Directly manage the Accounts Payable (AP) workflow, ensuring vendor invoices and expense reports are captured accurately, timely, and follow company policy.
  
• Review and book daily sales and revenue journal entries derived from the Point of Sale (POS) system to ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition.
  

• Financial Reporting and Analysis
  

• Support the preparation of weekly, monthly, and periodic internal financial statements and detailed management reports for executive decision-making.
  
• Provide detailed analysis and commentary on variances and key operational drivers reflected in the reports.
  

• Tax and Compliance
  

• Own the entire non-income tax compliance process, including the accurate and timely preparation and filing of monthly sales and meals taxes, as well as periodic personal property tax and other required statutory filings.
  
• Ensure all processes and documentation comply with relevant accounting standards and internal control guidelines.
  

• Others
  

• Assist and support the Controller and CFO on Accounting and finance-related tasks and reports.
  
• Any other miscellaneous and ad hoc finance duties related to the above.
  

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  
• CPA preferred.
  
• Minimum of 5 years of proven and progressive experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a management or senior-level role overseeing core accounting operations.
  
• Demonstrated expertise in managing the end-to-end month-end close process.
  
• In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP and solid experience with financial systems (e.g., ERP systems like NetSuite, SAP, or similar).
  
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, advanced formulas).
  

• CPA certification 
  
• Experience in the restaurant or food industry, including experience with inventory, COGS, and Point of Sale systems.
  
• Familiarity with sales tax compliance software (e.g., Avalara, Vertex).
  
• Prior experience working with a US client or company.
  
• Prior experience working in a fully remote environment.
  

Remote Work Requirements:

• Eligible to work as a remote freelancer or contractor based in the Philippines
  

• Has own computer or laptop capable of handling the demands of big data and financial, number crunching.
  

• Has a fast and reliable internet connection at home (at least 100MBPS)
  

• Has a quiet and distraction free work environment at home.
  

• Willing to work in graveyard shifts or changing shift schedules.
  

• Work from home. Full-time freelancer, contractual position
  

• 9:00AM to 6:00PM EST, USA, Mondays to Fridays
  

• Possible semi-flex or flex time (to be discussed with client / manager)
  

• 8 hours guaranteed, paid, shift per work day
  

• With 1 hour daily “lunch break” (unpaid)
  

• US Holidays off and unpaid
  

• Any overtime needs to be pre-approved by the client
  

Benefits

• COMPENSATION: $14 TO $16 Per hour depending on experience.
  
• CONTRACT: This is a 3-month long freelancing trial contract (full-time) that can be done remotely at home with a computer and a fast and reliable internet connection. There are no benefits for Freelancers during the evaluation period.
  
• POSSIBLE RENEWAL: However, if the Client decides to renew the contract there may be certain benefits such as paid sick leaves, paid vacation leaves, HMO health insurance and 13th month pay. These are not guaranteed and everything will depend on performance and client discretion.
  
• REPORTING TO: Although you will be reporting directly to the designated manager from our client, you will also be reporting to and will be supervised by Big Ideas Social Media Inc, who is the consultant and service provider (Agency) of the US business. Big Ideas will be the one to provide your compensation and other HR and administrative needs locally.
  
• ​LEGAL STATUS: You will be classified as “Self-Employed” when it concerns legality and taxation. You will not be considered an employee of our Client or Big Ideas Philippines but instead, you will be a self-employed freelance professional.
