Job description

Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to help design and evolve the systems powering NFI’s Digital Twin. In this role, you will work closely with the project lead to scale optimization and simulation systems, enabling innovative, data-driven solutions across the business.

 

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver new services, champion scalable architecture, and uphold strong engineering standards. The ideal candidate is a user-focused problem solver with a curiosity for complex software systems and a drive to build reliable, high-impact technology.

Responsibilities:
  • Architect and implement robust worker services on OpenShift (Kubernetes) for large-scale data processing and compute workloads
  • Drive performance optimization across the stack, including SQL concurrency tuning and vehicle routing solver orchestration and execution.
  • Develop and refine data staging, enrichment, and transformation pipelines to support decision analysis and scenario modeling.
  • Improve system reliability and scalability through service refactoring, workflow optimization, and resilient system design.
  • Develop, deploy, and integrate machine learning and AI models into production systems to enhance predictive and simulation capabilities.
  • Orchestrate complex automated workflows using platforms such as OpenShift (Kubernetes), Prefect, and Nextmv.
  • Design and implement monitoring, logging, and observability solutions (e.g., Grafana) to ensure system health and performance visibility.
  • Lead and contribute to the design of scalable microservices and event-driven or serverless architectures.
  • Maintain high engineering standards through code reviews, test-driven development, and comprehensive unit and integration testing.
  • Partner with product, operations, and data teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by the role and determined by management.
Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience in production environments.
  • Proven experience managing and contributing to multiple GitHub repositories in a collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise with the complete software development lifecycle for diverse production-scale systems.
  • Strong proficiency in the Python programming language 
  • Experience building and operating distributed systems and microservices architectures.
  • Deep understanding of relational databases, including SQL performance tuning and concurrency management (e.g., SQL Server).
  • Experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Prefect, Airflow) and containerized environments.
  • Strong debugging, performance tuning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (OpenShift or similar) in a production setting.
  • Experience designing and maintaining data pipelines for large-scale processing, and supporting the analytics engineering team.
  • Familiarity with optimization systems, simulation platforms, or operations research concepts (e.g., routing, scheduling, or resource allocation).
  • Experience with Supply Chain modeling platforms like Supply Chain Guru, Llama.ai, NextMV, Gains, Sophus, Starboard, Optilogic, or TMOD.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
  • Experience with Go/Golang
  • Experience with ML Algorithms, Optimization Algorithms, and Building AI Native Apps

We are excited to share that the base salary range for this position is $100,486.00 - $125,000.00, based on the national average for the position. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. NFI takes into consideration applicants' qualifications, experience, education, and geographic location when determining a starting rate of pay.
