Senior Legacy Conversion Consultant

SUMMARY:

We're looking for a Legacy Conversion Consultant to join our Application Modernisation team, helping enterprise organisations migrate business-critical applications away from legacy technologies.

This is a hands-on technical role focused on analysing legacy applications, executing large-scale migration projects, and working with automation tooling to accelerate application modernisation. You'll work primarily with CA Gen applications while supporting the migration of enterprise systems to both modern mainframe architectures and distributed technology stacks. You'll also help improve the automation tools and migration processes that drive future transformation projects.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING:

You will join our engineering team as a valued member, working closely in a collaborative, autonomous, cross-functional team. You will help with the following:

• Analyse and assess legacy applications, primarily developed in CA Gen.
• Execute application migration projects using automation tooling.
• Apply technical fixes and enhancements throughout the migration process.
• Define migration approaches for different application components, including: Database access, Online transactions, Batch processing, User interfaces, Application components
• Support phased migration strategies.
• Deliver migrations to: Native COBOL environments (CICS, IMS-DC and DB2) and modern technology stacks including Java, .NET, Spring Boot, Angular and cloud platforms.
• Validate converted applications to ensure functional equivalence, maintainability and performance.
• Document migration standards, reusable patterns and technical processes.
• Work closely with technical leadership to define migration strategies and delivery roadmaps.
• Support technical proposals and Statements of Work.
• Engage with customers and technical stakeholders to explain migration approaches and project outcomes.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of migration tooling and modernisation practices.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or any related technical field.
• Strong commercial experience with CA Gen (Cool:Gen).
• Experience with application migration, legacy modernisation or application re-platforming.
• Experience analysing and working with: Gen Models, Action Diagrams, Business Components, Data Models and Data Structures, Online transaction processing, Batch processing, Relational database access, Performance tuning, UI design and implementation.
• Experience working in Mainframe environments, including exposure to 3270 block-mode applications.
• Experience with one or more of the following technologies: COBOL (CICS, IMS-DC and DB2), Java, .NET, Spring Boot, Angular, Cloud platforms
• Experience using or implementing automation tooling for application migration or conversion.
• Experience working with XML or model extraction as part of migration projects.
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Good communication skills with the ability to work directly with technical and business stakeholders.
• Collaborative approach with a focus on delivery and continuous improvement.
• Strong English communication skills, written and verbal

AWESOME BUT NOT REQUIRED:

• MigrationWorks or similar application migration tooling.
• Experience supporting structured Gen conversion or regeneration programmes.
• Experience delivering migrations across multiple target platforms such as COBOL, Java, .NET or Angular.
• Mainframe tooling including: ISPF, JCL, SPUFI, SCLM
• CI/CD tools such as: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps
• Experience contributing to migration frameworks, automation tooling or application modernisation initiatives.
• Experience modernising enterprise applications to cloud or hybrid environments.
