Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Director, Portfolio is responsible for establishing process, implementing tools and leading initiatives that enables Baylor Genetics to efficiently prioritize, plan, deliver, launch, monitor, and optimize products and services across the organization.

 

The role is accountable for portfolio governance, roadmap planning, operational excellence, lifecycle management, launch readiness, performance monitoring, process and product optimization within the strategy and transformation organization. This position provides leadership with visibility into portfolio health, organizational capacity, delivery risks, operational performance, and strategic opportunities while driving improvements in efficiency, quality, customer experience, and business outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Portfolio Governance and Strategic Planning

• Lead enterprise portfolio governance processes across all product, platform, operational, and optimization initiatives.

• Establish and maintain a rolling 12–18-month portfolio roadmap aligned with corporate objectives.

• Facilitate roadmap planning and prioritization activities across departments.

• Develop portfolio review processes that provide transparency into priorities, resource utilization, risks, dependencies, and delivery commitments.

• Partner with executive leadership to evaluate investments, tradeoffs, and strategic opportunities, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, laboratory capabilities, customer needs, and operational goals.

• Establish intake, evaluation, prioritization, governance, and approval processes for new initiatives, enhancements, and operational improvements.

• Drive organizational alignment on priorities and execution plans.

• Implement scalable governance, workflow, and decision-making frameworks.

Process Improvements

• Develop and maintain portfolio management frameworks for Baylor Genetics’ product portfolio and supporting platforms.

• Partner with Product Management, Commercial, Laboratory, Clinical, and Operational stakeholders to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

• Improve delivery predictability and execution consistency across initiatives within the organization.

• Establish and support operational standards for product and program management.

• Promote best practices in program management, product operations, business practices, and organizational execution.

• Identify and remove organizational bottlenecks that impact delivery performance.

• Drive accountability across teams to ensure commitments are achieved.

• Identify opportunities to improve operational effectiveness and delivery efficiency across the organization.

Planning and Resource Management

• Own the enterprise Roadmap Planning process and supporting governance framework.

• Facilitate capacity planning and resource forecasting activities.

• Provide recommendations regarding initiative sequencing, prioritization, and resource allocation.

• Ensure alignment between organizational objectives and available delivery capacity.

• Maintain visibility into portfolio demand, resource constraints, and execution risks.

Performance Monitoring and Analytics

• Define and maintain enterprise Product Optimization and Operations KPIs.

• Develop executive dashboards and reporting frameworks.

• Establish measurement and reporting processes for portfolio health, delivery performance, launch readiness, operational efficiency, time-to-market, laboratory throughput, turnaround times, revenue performance, reimbursement outcomes, quality metrics, and customer satisfaction.

• Partner with Business Intelligence and Data Analytics teams to automate operational reporting and insights.

• Utilize performance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for optimization.

• Perform other duties as assigned to support team and organizational objectives.

• Comply with all company policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Life Sciences, Engineering, Product Management, or related field.

• 10+ years of experience in diagnostics, lab services, healthcare, biotech, or regulated environments.

• 5+ years of project/program management, new product development, and/or portfolio governance.

• Demonstrated success in planning and building complex project portfolio views, managing ROI and resourcing tradeoffs, and using project and portfolio management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, PKIT).

• Strong executive communication skills.

• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred

• Familiarity with CLIA, CAP, FDA, and regulated healthcare environments.

• PMP or MBA preferred.

• Experience in change management frameworks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Location: Remote

• Physical demands are consistent with a professional office environment; prolonged periods of computer-based work may be required.

• Work environment is primarily remote/office-based with interaction across product, clinical, laboratory, operational, and technical teams.

• Travel may be required periodically based on business needs.

• Special conditions may include working within regulated healthcare, laboratory, quality, and compliance requirements as applicable.
