The Job:  
The Senior Trade Compliance Specialist – Mexico is responsible for supporting and maintaining the company’s international trade compliance activities in Mexico. This role ensures adherence to applicable customs regulations, import/export requirements, and trade programs, with a strong focus on IMMEX compliance. The Sr. Specialist will work cross-functionally with import-export, logistics, procurement, operations, customs brokers, and legal/compliance teams to reduce risk, maintain accurate documentation, and support efficient cross-border operations. You’ll get to:  

  • Monitor and support compliance with Mexican customs laws, foreign trade regulations, and internal trade compliance policies.

  • Support IMMEX program compliance, including control of temporary imports, inventory reconciliation, annex requirements, reporting obligations, and audit readiness.

  • Ensure accurate import and export documentation in accordance with Mexican regulatory requirements.

  • Review customs declarations, tariff classifications, country of origin data, and valuation information for accuracy and compliance.

  • Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and internal stakeholders to resolve customs and trade-related issues.

  • Support compliance with other applicable Mexican trade programs and certifications, as required.

  • Maintain records and documentation required for customs audits, internal reviews, and regulatory inspections.

  • Assist in the preparation, review, and submission of trade compliance reports.

  • Identify compliance risks and recommend corrective actions and process improvements.

  • Support internal audits and compliance assessments related to import/export operations.

  • Provide guidance and training to internal teams on trade compliance requirements and best practices.

  • Track regulatory changes in Mexico related to customs, foreign trade, and IMMEX, and help implement necessary updates.

  • Partner with finance, supply chain, and operations teams to ensure alignment between physical movement of goods and compliance records.

  • Ensure all sites in Mexico are compliant with Supply Chain Security Programs, including CTPAT and OEA, by maintaining program requirements, supporting audits and validations, and driving corrective actions to address identified gaps.

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Business Administration, Law, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field.

  • 3-5 years of experience in trade compliance, customs compliance, import/export operations, or a related field.

  • Working knowledge of Mexican customs regulations and foreign trade requirements.

  • Experience with IMMEX compliance and administration and knowledge of Annex 24 and Annex 31 compliance requirements.

  • Familiarity with tariff classification, customs valuation, rules of origin, and import/export documentation.

  • Experience working with customs brokers and government authorities.

  • Familiarity with ERP systems and trade compliance software.

  • Experience supporting customs audits or government reviews.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in Spanish and English.

  • Experience in manufacturing or maquiladora environments.
