This is a remote position.
The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for leading and supporting the database architecture, data design, database buildout, optimization, and performance improvement efforts for the Elections platform as part of the TEam team.
This role is focused on strengthening the foundation of the TEAM system by ensuring database changes are well-designed, scalable, performant, supportable, and aligned with the broader platform strategy. The role should support other TEam developers and data engineers by providing database design guidance, query optimization, schema review, data modeling support, and hands-on implementation for complex database changes.
The expectation is not simply to complete database tickets, but to improve the overall quality, reliability, scalability, and maintainability of the platform’s database layer.
Definition of Success
Success will be measured by tangible improvements in database quality, performance, supportability, and delivery confidence, including:
• Faster database issue diagnosis
• Better-performing critical queries
• Reduced production database risk
• Fewer poorly designed schema changes
• Improved migration quality
• More consistent indexing and query review
• Better support for PIR, reporting, and Redshift workloads
• Clearer database ownership and standards
• Reduced manual data repair risk
• Improved developer confidence when making database changes
• Stronger alignment between application design, data quality, and reporting architecture
Executive Expectation
The expectation is to leave the platform’s database foundation materially better than it was found within the first 90 days. Success is not simply supporting database tickets. Success means improving database architecture, strengthening design standards, optimizing performance, supporting developers and data engineers, reducing operational risk, and creating a scalable database foundation that supports TEam delivery, reporting accuracy, Redshift modernization, and long-term platform stability.
