About RMIT University Pathways (RMIT UP)

RMIT UP, owned by RMIT University, provides education solutions for students, academics, and professionals in Australia and globally.

Our mission is to offer transformative learning experiences and pathways that open global opportunities, guided by RMIT’s values of inclusion, imagination, integrity, courage, passion, and impact. We place student and customer experience at the forefront of everything we do.

Our key programs include Foundation Studies, ELICOS English for Academic Purposes (EAP), language testing, and Informit, a leading research database focused on Australasian content.

About the role

RMIT University Pathways (RMIT UP) is looking for a Cloud-based Application Developer to join our Information Technology team on a fixed-term basis, replacing an employee on leave.

In this role, you'll play a key part in designing, developing, testing, and implementing web and cloud-based applications that support RMIT UP's internal and public-facing systems including our student management systems, content aggregation and management systems, and BI interfaces. You'll also help maintain and grow RMIT UP's commercial product range.

You'll be central to solving both ongoing and emerging business challenges, using agile delivery methods to lead the conception, development, and delivery of innovative solutions. This means translating business and end-user requirements into great software, transitioning applications from on-prem to cloud (SaaS/PaaS) environments and building new solutions cloud-native from the ground up.

Reporting to the Senior Application Developer, you'll work closely with other developers and project team members sharing knowledge, resolving issues, and ensuring products are delivered on schedule and to a high standard of quality.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Analysing requirements and designing solutions for cloud transition and new cloud-native projects

  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based applications and databases

  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders (including offshore partners) throughout the development lifecycle

  • Supporting testing, quality control, and continuous improvement activities

  • Contributing to a strong team culture around version control, documentation, and best practice

About You

You're a hands-on developer with solid commercial experience and a genuine interest in cloud platforms. You'll bring:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in software development or a related technology field with experience in a similar role within a professional services environment

  • Commercial programming experience in object-oriented languages (ASP.NET, C#, PowerShell, PHP) and functional programming such as React

  • Strong working knowledge of Azure and/or AWS — spanning app/API design, DevOps fundamentals, cloud architecture, performance optimisation, basic networking/security, and scalability (relevant certifications highly regarded)

  • Experience with relational databases and SQL (stored procedures, triggers, indexes) in SQL Server and/or MySQL

  • Web development skills across XML, XSL, JavaScript, jQuery, and CSS

  • Familiarity with full software development lifecycles and revision control tools like GitHub or Bitbucket

  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences alike

  • Sharp problem-solving instincts, sound judgement under pressure, and great attention to detail

  • A collaborative mindset, balanced with the ability to work independently

Experience with Learning Management Systems (like CANVAS), Power BI reporting, or web application security would be a bonus.
