Job description

Safepoint Insurance is an admitted Property & Casualty insurance carrier based in Tampa, FL.
This is an in-house (remotely domiciled) legal counsel position involving the defense of first-party property lawsuits in Florida.  

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage an active caseload of 50-85 litigated cases
  • Attend hearings and depositions
  • Appear for mediations on behalf of company
  • Negotiate settlements
  • Litigate cases up to and including trial
  • Additional projects and/or responsibilities as needed by the Legal Department

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree and JD from an accredited law school
  • Florida licensed attorney with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in insurance defense litigation in a law firm or primary P&C carrier
  • Member in Good Standing with the Florida Bar
  • Solid understanding of the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Expert in reading and interpreting contracts with the ability to evaluate and resolve coverage issues
  • Ability to educate claims specialists in complex coverage issues
  • Extensive experience with motion practice, written discovery, and depositions;
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Extensive experience with complex claims coverage issues
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional organizational skills

Essential Functions
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to reliably attend hearings, depositions, and mediations on-site as needed
  • Ability to review, understand, draft, and negotiate agreements, contracts, and legal documents
  • Ability to think critically and conduct in-depth analysis to assess cases and legal risk
  • Ability to multitask and work a medium to high volume caseload independently

Physical requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms, and drive a vehicle.

Working conditions
This job is professional in nature and will involve working remotely and traveling throughout the state to/from hearings, depositions, mediations, etc.
