Job description

Love romance? Dream of building a career in editorial publishing?

Sourcebooks is looking for an Editorial Assistant - Romance to join our rapidly growing Adult Romance team. Working alongside experienced acquiring editors, you'll help bring compelling romance novels from acquisition through publication while learning every stage of the editorial process.

As one of the fastest-growing imprints in the industry, Bloom Books has built a market-leading, author-first approach that delivers unforgettable stories to devoted readers. If you are a passionate, hands-on editor with deep experience in shaping commercially successful fiction—and you love romance (including the spicy kind!)—this is an incredible opportunity to work closely with bestselling and breakout authors to craft books that readers can’t put down.

This is an hourly, non-exempt position with range of $22.00 - $25.00 per hour. Starting pay is determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, geographic location, training, and education.

The location for this position can be hybrid or remote in New York or Naperville, Illinois or remote based in any of the following states: Arizona, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin.

What You'll Do

As part of our collaborative editorial team, you'll help bring romance stories to life while keeping projects moving from acquisition through publication.

  • Partner with acquiring editors to manage romance titles throughout the publishing process.
  • Coordinate projects across editorial, design, production, marketing, publicity, sales, and external partners.
  • Research market trends, bestselling authors, reader preferences, and competitive titles to support editorial decisions.
  • Write and update catalog copy, jacket copy, metadata, launch materials, and other marketing and editorial content.
  • Help position new books through packaging, titling, category strategy, and reader-focused positioning.
  • Maintain editorial schedules, databases, and project documentation.
  • Track sales information and prepare recurring reports.
  • Provide editorial and administrative support, including manuscript preparation, correspondence, shipping, and editorial corrections.

What You'll Bring

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree
  •  1–2 years of publishing experience preferred; internships, freelance work, and other editorial experiences count.
  • Eager to learn and grow within a dynamic editorial environment.
  • A self-starter mentality with initiative, curiosity, and a desire to build toward acquiring your own romance list.
  • Comfort speaking in front of groups and building strong relationships across teams and with external partners.
  • A positive, collaborative spirit; we’re a “yes, AND!” kind of team.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to juggle short- and long-term projects effectively and with great speed.
  • Excellent grammar skills with a sharp eye for errors big and small.
  • Strong knowledge of book production processes, from concept through publication, is a significant advantage.
  • Love romance. This one's non-negotiable. You know today's authors, tropes, trends, and reader communities, and you're always looking for your next great read.
If you're ready to turn your passion for romance into a publishing career, we'd love to hear from you.
