Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior CloudOps Engineer to join the DevLabs Squad, supporting one of our largest and most critical technology platforms.

DevLabs is a mature, enterprise-scale container orchestration platform that powers hundreds of applications across the organisation. This is not a greenfield engineering role. Instead, it is suited to engineers who thrive in a highly operational environment and understand the importance of maintaining platform stability, security, reliability, and performance.

The platform spans both on-premises VMware infrastructure and AWS cloud environments, with Rancher providing the orchestration layer. DevLabs is managed through Infrastructure as Code principles and immutable infrastructure practices, ensuring all changes are automated, tested, and deployed consistently across more than 25 environments.

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving operational challenges, supporting customers, improving platform health, and ensuring a complex platform continues to operate safely and securely throughout its lifecycle.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Provide day-to-day support for both production and non-production platform environments
  • Respond to and resolve customer and platform support requests during business hours
  • Perform platform upgrades and enhancements, including Kubernetes and Rancher upgrades
  • Identify, assess and remediate security vulnerabilities across the platform
  • Execute platform rebuilds through automation and Infrastructure as Code
  • Support ongoing platform maintenance and operational excellence initiatives
  • Drive continuous improvement opportunities across reliability, automation and support processes
  • Enhance observability capabilities through improved monitoring, dashboards and alerting
  • Work closely with engineering and platform teams to maintain platform health and availability
  • Contribute to operational documentation, runbooks and support procedures

Qualifications

You are an experienced Senior CloudOps Engineer who understands the realities of supporting large-scale enterprise platforms. You enjoy working in environments where operational excellence, stability, security and customer support are the primary focus.

You bring a pragmatic approach to problem solving, strong troubleshooting skills, and a continuous improvement mindset. Most importantly, you're comfortable working within a mature platform environment where success is measured by reliability and operational effectiveness rather than building new products.

Technical Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Strong experience working with AWS
  • Strong containerisation experience using Docker
  • Proven experience supporting large-scale Kubernetes platforms in enterprise environments
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform
  • Experience with observability and monitoring platforms such as New Relic and Splunk
  • Experience with CI/CD and deployment tooling, including:
    • GitHub
    • GitHub Actions
    • Bamboo
  • Strong troubleshooting, incident management and platform support capabilities

Desirable

  • Experience with Rancher administration and upgrades
  • Exposure to hybrid cloud environments spanning on-premises and AWS platforms
  • Scripting or software development experience using:
    • Python
    • Node.js
    • Java
  • Experience working with immutable infrastructure principles and automated platform rebuilds
  • Experience enhancing monitoring, alerting and platform observability
