Job description

Who is Nest Health?

As the first value-based care provider built for families, Nest is on a mission to make comprehensive medical, behavioral, and social care radically accessible to America’s highest risk families. Founded in 2022 by Former Secretary of Health of Louisiana and practicing OB-GYN, Dr. Rebekah Gee, and Rebecca Kavoussi, Nest is the first-of-its-kind family-based, in-home, and virtual care model; this includes primary adult and pediatric care, mental health and nutrition support, vaccinations and labs, same-and-next-day acute visits, chronic condition and transitions of care management, social services and navigation, and more. Nest’s innovative model has resulted in partnerships, unlocking care for thousands of families across our markets. Nest’s early success has led to national traction across states and payers, laying the groundwork for future expansion to families across the United States.

What does it mean to be a part of a startup?

Working at a healthcare startup can be a unique experience with a fast-paced, ever-changing environment that can involve varied workloads, quick changes, and high expectations. Taking a position at a Healthcare startup allows for the opportunity to be high impact in disrupting the US healthcare system. You will have the chance to be creative, solution oriented, and have your voice heard! You will need to be flexible, accountable, and self-sufficient, and you might take on multiple roles. Here are some things you can expect:

  • Role Breadth- Your role may be less defined than in other settings, with the need to wear multiple hats & juggle various responsibilities

  • Learning opportunities- you will have the opportunity, at times, to function outside of your standard position and learn about new roles & areas

  • Fast Paced- Startups often must move faster than traditional large companies. This means you may be asked to cope with or advise on quick changes regarding systems or processes

  • Autonomy- You will need to be highly autonomous, as there is less structure and learning and development than at large orgs. This requires you to be able to learn asynchronously, as well as raise your hand when help is needed, or gaps are identified

  • Collaboration- With so many opportunities to build processes and improve how we deliver care to our patients, we rely heavily on one-another to communicate changes effectively to ensure seamless support across functions. This often requires this individual to give and receive feedback frequently and communicate challenges or opportunities effectively.

What is the purpose of this role?

Nest exists to bring exceptional, compassionate care to families who've been underserved by the healthcare system. The Head of People exists to bring that same standard to our own team — building the organization that lets our clinicians keep showing up, every day, in markets most companies never reach.

This is a foundational leadership role, reporting to the COO. The Head of People will own the full People function end-to-end — strategy, budget, team, and execution — and architect Nest's culture as we grow across markets. Recruiting is a top strategic priority, and this leader will personally own its strategy and results, alongside retaining and developing our existing team.

You won't build this alone: you'll inherit a Lead Talent Acquisition partner and a People Operations generalist on day one, with room to grow the team as Nest's footprint expands.

What will you do?

Executive Leadership & Culture

● Report to the COO and serve as a key leadership voice across the executive team on organizational design, workforce planning, succession, and culture.

● Own the People strategy, budget, and annual operating plan.

● Build and lead the People team, scaling a modern HR operating model as Nest grows.

Recruiting & Workforce Planning

● Own enterprise recruiting strategy end-to-end — clinical and non-clinical — including employer brand and retention.

● Lead workforce planning tied to new market launches and clinical capacity.

● Be personally accountable for recruiting outcomes: time-to-fill, quality of hire, and pipeline health.

Organizational Effectiveness & Employee Experience

● Own performance management, leadership development, succession planning, and career architecture.

● Coach executives and senior leaders to strengthen accountability and cross-functional collaboration.

● Architect the employee experience end-to-end, with measurable DEI goals embedded throughout.

● Hold the line on integrity — in hiring, employee relations, and how hard decisions get made and communicated.

Total Rewards & Compensation

● Design and own total rewards strategy — salary structures, incentives, equity, and benefits.

● Ensure compensation philosophy is market-competitive and financially sustainable.

People Operations, Risk & Governance

● Own People Operations, HR systems, compliance, benefits administration, and workforce analytics.

● Lead or oversee investigations, employee relations matters, and terminations in partnership with Legal.

● Ensure compliance with employment regulations across all markets, and build risk mitigation proactively.

What this role is not

● Not a role where you inherit a finished system and keep it running — there's real room to build.

● Not administrative paper-pushing — a meaningful share of the team is clinical and frontline, and this role designs for that reality.

● Not for someone who wants a fully staffed, fully scoped function on day one. If you want to build something that scales as Nest grows into a national company, it is.

What do you bring to the Nest?

● 12+ years of progressive People leadership experience, including at a senior leadership level or above.

● Experience in a services-based environment (healthcare delivery, multi-site operations) where workforce strategy is central to success.

● A track record of building and scaling People functions in high-growth, multi-market environments — ideally with direct ownership of recruiting.

● Deep expertise across talent acquisition, organizational design, total rewards, employee relations, and compliance.

● Strong executive presence, with the ability to influence and advise C-level leaders and hold them accountable.

● Uncompromising integrity, high emotional intelligence, and sound judgment.

● Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and Nest's mission of advancing equitable healthcare outcomes.

What does Nest bring to the table?

We're reimagining what a supportive workplace looks like, from the inside out. To ensure every team member feels valued, we provide competitive compensation packages that reflect your skills and contributions. We offer a comprehensive suite of benefits, including employer-sponsored health, dental, and life options, unlimited PTO, and an all-of-you, inclusive approach to benefits:

● Family-centric health support with access to Lyric's comprehensive services for urgent care, behavioral health, psychology, and psychiatry for you and your entire family, including virtual veterinary care for your pets.

● Company-supported parental leave for both primary and non-primary caregivers, with options for a tiered return to work, and eligibility for additional PTO hours for prenatal care and backup childcare.

● Reimbursement for work-related vehicle expenses, including commuting and travel costs, for staff who drive as part of their job.

● Up to $3,000/year in tuition reimbursement to support your educational and professional development.

● Employer-sponsored short-term and long-term disability benefits.

● Enrollment in a 401(k) Retirement Plan through Human Interest.

What is required (travel & physical requirements)?

This is a remote role and will require occasional travel to field offices and off-site meetings (~20%).

Nest understands that job requirements sometimes exclude people who identify with historically marginalized groups from applying to jobs for which they're qualified. Even if you don't meet 100% of the requirements listed, or you built these skills through unconventional channels, we encourage you to apply.
