Job description

Job Description:

Why join DXC Technology?

DXC Technology (NYSE:DXC) – where brilliant people embrace change and seize opportunities to advance their careers and amplify customer success.

People are the heart of our business. We support each other and work as a team, globally and locally, to deliver excellence for our customers and colleagues. We live in more than 70 countries, speak multiple languages and work with over 6,000 customers on almost every continent. We use the power of technology to deliver mission-critical IT services that move the world. DXC.com

DXC is seeking a Senior Virtualisation & Wintel Systems Engineer to provide day-to-day operational support for a key resources-sector client's mission-critical on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure. This role requires broad, hands-on experience across hyperconverged and traditional virtualisation platforms (Nutanix AHV and VMware vSphere), Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory, and Microsoft Azure. The successful candidate must demonstrate a competent level of technology architecture, design and implementation experience, along with a sound level of networking, Windows/Linux administration, scripting and automation in an enterprise or regulated-sector environment.

At DXC we pride ourselves on delivering excellence in everything we do. For you, this means the opportunity to help solve real business problems for a valued client operating critical infrastructure, while deepening your expertise across a genuinely broad technology estate.

What you will be doing

You will design, implement, operate and maintain the client's virtualisation and Wintel environments – keeping mission-critical workloads healthy, secure and available, and helping the client maximise the value of their platform investments. You will work across on-premise Nutanix and VMware infrastructure, Windows Server and Active Directory, and integrated Azure services.

Who you will be working with

You will be working in our Cloud and ITO Service line, supporting a major Australian resources-sector client within a team of highly skilled engineers. You will collaborate with client stakeholders, DXC delivery teams, and technology partners (e.g. Nutanix, VMware/Broadcom, Microsoft). The environment operates under ISM / Essential Eight-aligned security obligations, giving you exposure to compliance-driven infrastructure delivery.

What will keep you busy

  • Operate and maintain Nutanix (AHV) and VMware vSphere/ESXi environments, including cluster health, capacity, upgrades and lifecycle management (LCM / AOS / vCenter).

  • Administer Windows Server estates and Active Directory – replication, DNS, Group Policy, certificate services and domain health across multiple domains.

  • Support and integrate Microsoft Azure services (IaaS, storage, identity/Entra) alongside on-premise workloads in a hybrid model.

  • Review and update infrastructure designs, create implementation plans, and audit existing environments.

  • Develop server images, build standards and technology deployment strategies.

  • Design and implement preventative maintenance plans for virtual and Wintel infrastructure.

  • Configure and tune alarms, alerts and monitoring across platforms.

  • Troubleshoot performance and availability problems, investigate incidents, and manage escalations to resolution.

  • Adopt and apply AI-assisted tooling to improve productivity – accelerating diagnostics, scripting, automation and documentation while maintaining quality and security standards.

  • Independently take on tasks across multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Log all cases and work in DXC's Service Management platform, and support Change, Problem and Capacity governance.

  • Maintain platform stability and uptime targets across the virtual and Wintel estate.

  • Work remotely, and on client sites or data centres as required.

The skills you will bring

  • Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related discipline, or equivalent job experience.

  • Strong hands-on experience with Nutanix (AHV and/or ESXi on Nutanix) – cluster operations, upgrades and troubleshooting.

  • Solid VMware vSphere/ESXi and vCenter experience across design, implementation and operational support.

  • Advanced Windows Server administration and Active Directory expertise (replication, DNS, GPO, PKI/certificate services).

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and hybrid cloud integration (identity, storage, IaaS).

  • Proficient in TCP/IP networking, VLANs and infrastructure security fundamentals.

  • PowerShell and PowerCLI scripting for automation and operational tooling.

  • Comfortable administering both Windows and Linux systems.

  • Exposure to ISM / Essential Eight or comparable security compliance frameworks is highly regarded.

  • Relevant certifications (e.g. Nutanix NCP, VMware VCP/VCAP, Microsoft Azure/Windows Server) are advantageous.

  • Ability to leverage AI tooling and assistants (e.g. copilots, LLM-based tools) to enhance productivity, accelerate troubleshooting, automate routine tasks and improve documentation quality.

  • Ability to work directly with customers in a professional manner and maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of emerging trends.
