The Opportunity

This position is field based in Markham/Richmond Hill/Newmarket/Uxbridge area.  We’re focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We’re revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.  In this position you will perform duties and activities within established company policies and procedures in a professional and ethical manner for quality performance to develop maximum sales growth in an assigned geographical territory. 

What You’ll Do

  • Contacts and calls on high prescribing doctors, and educators within the diabetes category at prescribed intervals, as well as pharmacies. 

  • Maintains a high level of disease state, competitive and Abbott Diabetes Care product knowledge to meet the customers’ needs and expectations.  This position reports to the District Manager.

  • Manage territory as a business to maximize sales by analyzing market dynamics and utilizing available information to develop, plan, track and adjust appropriately to meet short and long-term goals.

  • Grow sales and share of sensors and other key products by effectively educating and convincing HCPs to place Abbott meters (including FreeStyle InsuLinx) to insulin using patients.

  • Execute target patient start programs (including clinic days / other events) to accelerate insulin using patient starts.

  • Build territory sales strategic plan and utilize selling model - to include components of: pre call planning, opening, positioning statement, probing, needs assessment, objection handling, closing and post call analysis.

  • Identify and act on new opportunities to grow sales Work in close collaboration Abbott Laboratories Representatives and marketing team members to grow share.

  • Pursue a continuous program for self-development to educate self on the disease state, new products (Abbott Diabetes Care and competition), new tools, and the changing business environment to help build sales and manage the business.

  • Communicate sales activity, follow-up, and report in a clear, concise and consistent manner, while meeting key administrative and project deadlines.

  • Maintain all assigned company equipment, records and supplies in accordance with company policy for efficient operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a multi-disciplinary function. 

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years sales experience.

  • The Diabetes Sales Specialist position requires training and knowledge of the diabetes sales and marketing networks and the elements impacting those networks.  This training should include the technical background necessary to understand diabetes, modes of treatment, monitoring, etc. and Abbott Diabetes Care and competitive products so that proper representation of the Abbott Diabetes Care products can be made during sales presentations with physicians, educators and pharmacists.  The Diabetes Sales Specialist will be given sufficient background in the various functions involved in selling effectively so as to achieve the objectives established for the company. 

  • Problem solving skills are essential to establish and maintain distribution of existing product lines in a very competitive environment, accomplish the plans and objectives for profits and sales, ensure proper promotional strategies of the product line, and to deal with competitive claims. 

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $68,250.00 to $100,100.00 CAD. The salary range provided applies to Canada only and does not apply to any other locations outside of Canada.
