We are presently recruiting for a Clinical Specialist, Oncology, to join our AbbVie Institute of health education team. This is a field position reporting to the Manager, Clinical Specialists.

The primary responsibility of the Clinical Specialist, Oncology is to reactively support healthcare professionals (HCPs) learning needs across Canada, to improve their knowledge and skills through the implementation and execution of a clinical training program. This program focuses on sharing of best practices around patient management and safety as it relates to product administration techniques and protocols, in full alignment with the product monograph.  The clinical specialist training curriculum is tailored to individual HCPs training needs and includes virtual learning activities, one-on-one coaching sessions, and exposure to subject matter experts.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing and executing training programs that are aligned with HCPs learning needs and the brand strategic imperatives. Focused on healthcare professionals specializing in Oncology, specifically Hematology and Ovarian Cancer, who work in centers across Canada
  • Perform baseline and ongoing assessments for HCPs that request training, identify their training needs, and develop tailored training curricula and plans to address them.
  • Coach and support the healthcare professional to ensure progression through their learning journey and make mutually agreed determinations as to when the healthcare professional has met their learning objectives.
  • Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with the health education manager (HEM) and cross-functional team members to provide the best learning experience to the trained HCP.
  • Share knowledge on product administration protocols, and safety monitoring to ensure safe and effective use of AbbVie products for the patient.
  • Offer as part of the training curriculum, learning programs focused on scientific and/or clinical issues for oncology (i.e., product administration protocols, monitoring and management of patient treatment)
  • Establish and maintain strong business relationships with key experts, and act as the key point of contact for external stakeholders regarding administration protocol training requirements.
  • Support the Oncology therapeutic areas, in alignment with Innovation Medicines Canada’s (IMC) guidelines and AbbVie’s compliance requirements.

Qualifications

Education / Experience required

  • Registered Nurse or a licensed Healthcare provider
  • Relevant Oncology expertise (Hematology and/or Ovarian Cancer) (minimum five years):
    • Solid clinical, medical, and scientific knowledge of the therapeutic area.

Strong knowledge of Canadian Cancer Centres centers and how they function.

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or medical devices industries, and training capabilities (minimum of five years) considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and IMC guidelines considered a plus.
  • Strong commitment to compliance, quality control, and integrity.
  • Working knowledge of the healthcare industry and its evolving landscape, with an understanding of the Canadian regulatory environment is preferred.

Essential skills and abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of project management tools and platforms are an asset.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to travel extensively across Canada and adhere to a rigorous schedule (up to 60% including weekends and evenings).
