Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the communities served by Travis Credit Union, which include the following counties: Alameda, Colusa, Contra Costa, Merced, Napa, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus, and Yolo. For hybrid and remote roles, candidates are still required to reside within a commutable distance of our corporate headquarters in Vacaville, California.

Summary: Travis Credit Union’s Small Business and Commercial Loan Portfolio Manager job family provides post-origination credit administration and independent portfolio oversight. The team completes periodic loan reviews, maintains accurate risk ratings, monitors covenant compliance results, identifies emerging risks, manages delinquency action plans and loan modifications, and performs special asset and workout activities to protect the members’ capital.
 
This function operates independently of loan origination and loan administration and aligns with supervisory expectations for loan portfolio management, independent credit risk review, accurate risk grading, exception tracking, and effective reporting to management and the board, consistent with regulatory guidance and Interagency Credit Risk Review standards.
 
Profile: 
  • Owns post-origination oversight of assigned portfolios across Small Business, Commercial Real Estate (CRE) and Commercial and Industrial (C&I) segments, ensuring timely annual and interim reviews and accurate risk ratings in accordance with policy.
  • Reviews covenant compliance results produced by Commercial Loan Administrator and initiates remedial actions, waivers, or amendments when appropriate.
  • Performs portfolio analytics and early warning surveillance, including trend analysis, migration monitoring, and watch-list management to surface risks promptly.
  • Leads borrower meetings for renewals, modifications, and performance updates; prepares credit memoranda for renewals and modifications with clear recommendations and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Manages criticized and classified relationships, prepares and executes workout plans, coordinates with Legal on enforcement actions, and maximizes recoveries through negotiated restructures or collateral liquidation when necessary.
  • Partners with Relationship Managers, Underwriters, Commercial Loan Administration, Legal, Compliance, and Internal Audit to ensure adherence to policy and unqualified audit and examination results.
  • Provides clear reporting to management on portfolio performance, concentrations, watch-list status, risk rating changes, and remediation progress.                                                                                               
Skills:  
  • Strong credit analysis skills, including cash flow and tax return analysis, financial projections, and calculation of debt service coverage ratio (DSCR),  global debt service coverage ratio (GDSCR), and loan-to-value (LTV) using cash flow methodologies such as net operating income (NOI), traditional cash flow, and uniform credit analysis (UCA).
  • In-depth understanding of diverse loan types, including CRE, C&I, and government-guaranteed programs, including but not limited to SBA 7(a) loans.
  • Ability to identify inconsistencies, trends, or red flags in borrower financial statements and supporting documentation.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in preparing periodic loan reviews, workout plans, and distressed loan analyses.
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulatory guidance for portfolio management and credit risk, with an understanding of safety and soundness standards.
  • Expertise in criticized asset management and workout strategies, including restructures, forbearance arrangements, collateral valuation, and coordination with Legal on foreclosure or bankruptcy actions.
  • Ability to structure renewals and modifications aligned with borrower performance and credit union risk appetite, including covenant adjustments and appropriate risk mitigants.
  • Accuracy in assigning and updating risk grades based on borrower performance, collateral changes, and evolving market conditions.
  • Proficiency with credit administration and review systems, including interpretation of tickler and covenant tracking outputs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear review memoranda, present to senior loan committee, and engage effectively with borrowers.

    • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field; or equivalent related work experience.
    • Minimum 6 years of commercial portfolio management and workout experience with leadership of criticized assets and policy stewardship.
    • Handles the most complex and high-value loans, including aggregate exposures exceeding $5 million.
  • Commercial Loan Portfolio Manager Lead
    • Reports directly to assigned department leadership.
    • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field; or equivalent related work experience.
    • Minimum 6 years of commercial portfolio management experience including at least 1 year of leading/mentoring less experienced team members.
    • Handles the most complex and high-value loans, including aggregate exposures exceeding $10 million.
    • Effectively shapes portfolio management policies to adapt to evolving market conditions and performance outcomes.
    • Drives optimal recovery outcomes while reducing losses through proactive and responsible actions.

Compensation

  • Senior Commercial Loan Portfolio Manager – Grade 19/ Non-Exempt/ $56.08 – $69.28
  • Commercial Loan Portfolio Manager Lead – Grade 21 / Exempt/$140,025.60 - $172,972.80
