LNG/Gas Specialist, Asia 

Remote working, full time, Asia-based 

 

The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking a motivated and experienced professional who is passionate about Asia’s energy transition and eager to apply their expertise in energy economics and finance.  

 

The role will provide technical and economic clarity to IEEFA’s analytical and policy assessment work in Asia with the task of evaluating how regional energy and financial markets impact country decarbonization and energy transition plans. The LNG/Gas Specialist will be responsible for shaping research and analysis regarding the financial condition of major LNG importers, power companies, and utilities in the region. The analyst will create impactful assessments and commentary on the energy transition in Asia. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, able to work independently, able to multitask, set priorities, and meet deadlines with limited direction while working remotely. 

 

IEEFA is a global NGO/non-profit think tank that produces a significant volume of original independent public interest research and analysis on issues related to sustainable energy markets, trends, regulations, and policies. IEEFA engages with various high-level stakeholders from both public and private domains. Primary Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Independently research and write original compelling, professional reports and commentaries covering the energy transition and decarbonization finance in the Asia region  
  • Critically analyze global fossil fuel markets with an emphasis on LNG and natural gas to ascertain the financial and economic impacts they have on companies and country markets that IEEFA covers in Asia.  
  • Conduct analyses to provide clarity on the economic options and challenges facing corporate players in the LNG value chain as they assess how they will address the energy transition and tackle decarbonization in short, medium, and long terms  
  • Work closely with the LNG/Gas Research Lead, Asia, to develop impact strategies and monitor the performance outcomes of IEEFA’s work relating to LNG and natural gas  
  • Establish and engage with relevant stakeholders in private and public sectors within countries, industry, and across the Asia-Pacific region and represent IEEFA at meetings and industry events  
  • Provide insights to the media and respond to requests for views to assist in building an informed public media narrative on financing the energy transition over the short, medium, and long term  

 

 

Required Skills & Qualifications  

  • A degree in finance, economics, accounting, or political science and/or with professional certifications (e.g. CFA) or appropriate and relevant market-oriented experience in lieu of those degrees  
  • At least five or more years of relevant experience in the energy sector, with exposure to finance or market analysis  
  • Will have covered, analyzed, or worked in the energy sector covering the energy markets in the Asia-Pacific region, with strong emphasis on fossil fuel commodities, particularly natural gas and LNG  
  • Experience publishing analysis or thought leadership on energy markets   
  • Demonstrated high-level proficiency in communicating effectively in English and with sound judgment, both orally and in writing  
  • A commitment to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable, and profitable energy economy 

 

Compensation 

Full-time 12-month fixed-term employment contract with the option of extension by mutual agreement and a market competitive remuneration. Pay rates are also based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. 

 

Work Schedule 

Remote, full-time. Due to collaboration with international teams, the schedule will include some early morning or later evening hours to accommodate time zones.   

 

Travel 

Some travel is required. All global team members attend IEEFA’s annual conference and regional or international team retreat when scheduled.  

 

Physical Demand and Work Environment. 

Must be able to work for prolonged periods at a computer. Computer work can involve repetitive motion, eyestrain, back, and neck strain.
