This role requires attention to detail, knowledge, the ability to collaborate with others and also work autonomously with minimal oversight. The successful candidate must have experience with basic US labor and employment laws and other relevant experience.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work with internal and external counsel for regular litigation case updates and handle such information on the Company’s legal case management system.

  • Work with VP Legal, Finance and others to prepare required litigation reports and analysis for internal and external partners.

  • Respond to subpoenas and other similar requests directed to the Company for employee records/data.

  • Assist with labor and employment litigation, including maintaining matter calendars, help with organizing, gathering and coordinating document production, compliance with document preservation requirements (hold notices), and responding to electronic discovery obligations related to litigation and government investigations and/or inquiries.

  • Support internal and external counsel with scheduling and coordinating of interviews of current and former Company personnel.

  • Assist attorneys in implementing terms of settlement agreements including payments to former employees and other third parties (e.g. law firms).

  • Handle Amex GBT Hotline, centralized policy resources, and provide reports, as needed.

  • Work with HR Operations and Facilities teams to ensure compliance with workplace postings and notices requirements.

  • Work with HR Operations and Talent Acquisition on applicable Affirmative Action Plans (AAPs) in the US, as needed.

  • Assist with drafting basic labor and employment documents for review by Employment Law team and responding to questions from Human Resources regarding issues on policies and other matters.

  • Stay informed about current US and international labor and employment laws and provide periodic legal updates to the Human Resources team, at the direction of members of the Legal Team.

  • Maintain Employment Law and other training schedules and assist in development of legal presentations, as needed.

  • Serve as a representative of the Employment Law team on Company projects and initiatives as well as occasional back up to other colleagues on the Legal and Human Resources teams.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong litigation background, particularly in employment law and preferably outside the US. Familiarity with labor and employment law in the US; knowledge of labor and employment law in other jurisdictions highly preferred.

  • Strong consideration to candidate with previous employment and/or paralegal experience at a law firm or other transferable paralegal training or experience.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple projects, meet established deadlines and handle change as business needs require.

  • Proficient digital literacy including e-mail, recordkeeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet and external speciality platforms (litigation management, etc.)

  • Strong computer research and investigation skills. Excellent legal research and legal writing skills.

  • Paralegal certificate, with at least 3-5 years related employment law experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
