Where You Will Work
Our global headquarters is in Phoenix, Arizona. Several hundred employees support our operations in finance, human resources, health and safety, information technology, planning, and more. Our flexible work program allows employees to work virtually as well as come together in person when needed at our Collaboration Hub in Phoenix and/or one of our site locations. Employees can work remotely from most states in the U.S., with the exception of California, Connecticut, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma and South Carolina. Additional states may be excluded from remote work based on business factors. Should the position shift to in-person (office/site) work in the future, the company will offer relocation benefits at that time, so long as the position meets the established eligibility for these benefits.
What You Will Do
Leads the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of enterprise leave and absence programs across North America, ensuring a compliant, consistent, and employee-centered experience. Serves as both a strategic leader and subject matter expert, partnering across HR, Safety, Payroll, HR Systems, and external vendors to deliver seamless support during critical employee life events. Drives operational excellence through process transformation, automation, AI-enabled solutions, and technology enablement to create scalable, efficient leave administration processes that improve payroll accuracy, compliance, and the employee experience.
Leave Operations Leadership & Capability Building
- Lead and develop a team responsible for leave administration across North America, establishing consistent performance standards, coaching practices, quality expectations, and a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Build team capability in compliance, case management, employee experience, and process improvement methodologies.
- Drive role clarity, workload balancing, and service delivery effectiveness to ensure scalable support and operational excellence.
Program Leadership, Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Lead the design, governance, and continuous improvement of leave programs and service delivery processes to ensure compliance, consistency, and an employee-centered experience.
- Define and evolve operational strategies, service delivery models, performance standards, and key metrics that improve service quality, efficiency, and scalability.
- Serve as the escalation leader for complex or sensitive employee matters, ensuring aligned, compliant and employee-centered outcomes.
- Partner with HR, Legal, Benefits, and site leadership to address complex leave, accommodation, and compliance matters while mitigating organizational risk.
Leave Administration, Time Coding & Payroll Integration Strategy
- Oversee complex and high-risk leave cases while ensuring accurate leave administration, time coding, and payroll integration processes.
- Partner with Payroll, Benefits, and HR Systems to establish controls, audits, and process improvements that reduce errors, overpayments, and compliance risk.
- Monitor operational trends and implement corrective actions that improve payroll accuracy, operational effectiveness, and employee outcomes.
Technology, Automation & Process Transformation
- Drive process transformation through technology enablement, automation, digital solutions, self-service capabilities, and service delivery innovation that improve efficiency, scalability, payroll accuracy, and employee experience.
- Partner with HR Systems, Payroll, Technology, and vendors to enhance system integrations, improve data accuracy, and reduce manual effort.
- Identify and champion opportunities to leverage emerging technologies, automation, and AI-enabled solutions to modernize leave administration and reduce manual effort.
Analytics, Stakeholder Partnership & Vendor Management
- Leverage data, reporting, performance metrics, and workforce insights to identify risks, support decision-making, and improve program effectiveness.
- Build strategic partnerships with internal stakeholders and external vendors to drive service excellence, influence outcomes, and advance organizational objectives.
- Manage vendor performance, service level expectations, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure effective delivery of leave and absence services.
What You Bring To Freeport
- Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience in leave management, HR operations, or related field, including demonstrated experience leading and developing a team; OR
- High School Diploma/GED AND five (5) years of experience in leave management, HR operations, or related field, including demonstrated experience leading and developing a team.
- Deep knowledge of leave laws and regulations including FMLA, STD & LTD, workers’ compensation, and related state and provincial leave requirements.
- Understanding of ADA reasonable accommodation requirements to support site HR in managing accommodations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ethical decision-making abilities.
- Experience with HR systems, case management tools, payroll and timekeeping systems and their integrations.
- Experience participating in or supporting process improvement, automation, or technology-enabled transformation initiatives.
- Exposure to process automation, AI-enabled tools, or self-service technologies used to improve HR operations and employee experience.
- Strong systems thinking and ability to redesign processes across multiple functions.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize data and analytics to drive operational decisions and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change and influence adoption of new technologies and ways of working.
- Ability to manage complex, sensitive employee situations with sound judgment.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Family Medical Leave Act regulations and requirements.
- Experience in shared services or contact center model.
- Experience working with external leave or disability vendors.
- Continuous improvement mindset.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing a team.
What We Offer You
The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $97,500-$138,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
