Job description

At Pier 4 our portfolio of multi-family real estate assets is growing and as a result we are looking for an experienced Painter, to join our team in Hamilton/St. Catharines Ontario. We are looking for a Painter who wants to be part of our exciting journey and is truly engaged in being an advocate of and executing, best-in-class painting and property maintenance.


At Pier 4 we aspire to be the leaders in this space and at the same time we are grounded by years of expertise in property management, relationship-oriented business practices and a drive for continuous improvement.  We maintain our properties with a focus on revitalization to assure our residents feel comfortable in their homes.


The Painter, reports to the Regional Team Lead and is accountable for painting and preserving the condition of properties. Our Painters are polite and professional. They can work independently and stay focused on a task for several hours at a time. They can also stay on their feet and do physical work for most of each day.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing surfaces for painting by washing, scraping, sanding, and patching
  • Applying paint on interior and exterior surfaces
  • Removing old paint
  • Filling holes and sealing corners
  • Protecting surfaces from water damage, mold, and other hazards through the use of primers and other coatings
  • Moving ladders, paint cans, and other painting equipment
  • Finding ways to reduce the costs of equipment and supplies
  • Keeping work areas neat and clean
  • Checking inventory, and requesting paint and other supplies when needed
  • Consulting with Property Managers and other Maintenance Technicians
  • Providing general aesthetic maintenance
  • Cleaning up job sites and disposing of waste materials properly
  • Own work vehicle
  • Ability to follow and complete a daily, weekly & monthly task schedule
  • Basic understanding of all applicable laws, legislation and rights concerning residents/landlord relations.
  • Available for on-call duties, evenings and weekends. Hours may change based on operational needs.
  • Willing to travel to/among various locations within Hamilton/St. Catharines Ontario.


Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Present self in a manner that demonstrates the Pier 4 values of Professionalism, Integrity, Excellence and Respect.
  • Proven relevant painting skills.
  • Experience in Commercial painting is required.
  • Comfortable working from heights i.e. exterior building painting and balconies
  • Experience painting different surfaces i.e. Line painting/exterior building painting
  • Knowledge and experience with exterior painting for low rise residential properties.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to problem-solve, multi-task and remain detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Ontario G Driver’s license in good standing (clean driver’s abstract)
  • Eligible to work in Canada (will be subject to a criminal background check).
  • High School Diploma and 5+ years of work-related experience.
  • WHMIS training, knowledge of applicable legislation respecting residential tenancies in Ontario and the rights and obligations of Landlords and Tenants an asset.
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of paint and how to use common painting tools
  • Plenty of attention to detail
