Sonatype

Computer Software / SaaS

The Sonatype journey started 10 years ago, just as the concept of “open source” software development was gaining steam. From our humble beginning as core contributors to Apache Maven, to supporting the world’s largest repository of open source components (Central), to distributing the world's most popular repository manager (Nexus), we’ve played a meaningful role in helping the world embrace the power of open innovation. Over time, we witnessed the staggering volume and variety of open source libraries that began flowing into every development environment in the world. We understood that when open source components are properly managed, they provide a tremendous energy for accelerating innovation. Conversely, when unmanaged, open source "gone wild" can lead directly to security vulnerabilities, licensing risks, enormous rework, and waste. Our vision today is simple. We are laser focused on helping organizations continuously harness all of the good that open source has to offer, without any of the risk. In order to do this, we have invested in knowing more about the quality of open source than anyone else in the world. This investment takes the form of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and human expertise, which in aggregate produces highly curated intelligence that is infused into every Nexus product. Organizations equipped with Nexus products make better decisions, innovate faster at scale, and rest comfortably knowing that their applications always consist of the highest quality open source components.

Job description

Sonatype is accelerating the future of agentic software development. As developers and AI agents build faster than ever, enterprises need a new level of control, visibility, and confidence at the moment software is assembled. Our Nexus One platform helps development, security, and platform teams govern the components, dependencies, models, and artifacts that power modern applications without slowing innovation down.

We are uniquely positioned to lead this next era. Sonatype operates both Maven Central, one of the world’s largest public open source registries, and Nexus Repository, a top-ranked enterprise repository used by thousands of organizations and over 70% of the Fortune 100. With over 1 trillion downloads annually across our ecosystem, we have unmatched visibility into how software is published, consumed, and propagated. That insight helps our customers make smarter decisions earlier, reduce rework, avoid security surprises, and ship AI-powered software with greater speed and confidence.

We are looking for people who want to build. People who are scrappy, entrepreneurial, hands-on, and hungry to make an impact. Sonatype is at an exciting inflection point, and we need teammates who can see the opportunity ahead, move with urgency, and help us shape the way the world builds secure software in the AI era.

As the Chief of Staff to Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), you will serve as a strategic partner, trusted advisor, and operational force multiplier for Sonatype’s Go-To-Market (GTM) executive leadership. You will align strategic priorities, drive cross-functional execution across Marketing, Product, and Sales, manage the GTM operational cadence, and ensure that leadership's vision translates into measurable business growth. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role requiring a rare blend of strategic thinking, operational excellence, and exceptional relationship management.

ROLE OUTCOMES:
  • Operational Rhythm Excellence: Establish, manage, and continuously optimize the operating cadence (QBRs, monthly strategy reviews, leadership meetings, weekly operating rhythm, planning cycles) across the Marketing, Sales, and Product organizations within the first 60 days.
  • Strategic Alignment: Successfully drive 100% completion of key cross-functional strategic initiatives: Working with Product Managers and project managers to drive high quality and high revenue impact product launches. Ensuring alignment and execution across with Marketing and Sales for sales plays and other motions that transform marketing campaigns into revenue.
  • Executive Efficiency: Reclaim up to 25% of executive capacity for CMO by managing agenda prioritization, distilling key updates, and driving action items to closure.
  • Communication Cascade: Deliver high-quality, clear regular communication assets (all-hands, board updates, company-wide announcements) on behalf of GTM leadership

  • ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Strategic Initiatives: Lead and project-manage high-priority, cross-functional projects that do not naturally fall within a single vertical function (e.g., cross-functional GTM plays, market expansion plans).
  • Executive Cadence & Planning: Organize, facilitate, and follow up on weekly leadership meetings, quarterly business reviews (QBRs), and annual GTM strategic planning sessions.
  • Cross-Functional Bridge: Serve as a connector between Sales Ops, Marketing Ops, and finance to ensure metrics, forecasting, and resource allocations align perfectly with GTM goals.
  • Executive Communications: Draft executive communications, board presentations, keynote materials, and internal updates for the CRO and CMO.
  • Proxy Representation: Act as a proxy and sounding board for the CMO in key discovery calls, tracking meetings, and strategic alignment sessions when necessary.

  • EXPERIENCE
  • Experience: 6+ years of total experience in high-growth B2B SaaS environments, with at least 2+ years in a Chief of Staff, Strategy/Operations, Sales Ops, or Management Consulting role.
  • GTM Literacy: Deep understanding of software GTM models, Pipeline Mechanics, Sales stages, Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC), and marketing conversion funnels.
  • Execution & Project Management: Exceptional organizational skills with a proven track record of moving complex, ambiguous projects from ideation to execution.
  • Influencing Skills: Ability to build strong relationships, navigate corporate dynamics, and influence senior leaders across functions without direct authority.
  • Data & Communication: Strong capability to turn raw data into strategic narratives, paired with elite slide-building and presentation design skills.
  • Things that we are proud of:
