Job description

Anypear is a headhunting and recruitment agency connecting New Zealand and Australian businesses with top overseas talent.

We’re seeking a versatile Mechanical Design Engineer who brings a strong blend of technical knowledge, drafting capabilities and project documentation skills to help our Australian client’s Non Process Infrastructure business. This remote role focuses on engineering administration, drafting and 3D modelling for piping, skid structures, and NPI projects in the mining sector.

Role

  • Support the drafting and development of Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for NPI utility systems (e.g., water, fuel, air, and lubrication facilities).
  • Utilise CAD software (AutoCAD) to produce accurate, high-quality technical 2D and 3D drawings that meet industry and safety standards.
  • Support NPI mining projects through all phases of the project lifecycle: Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS), Detailed Engineering Study (DES), Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), and Detailed Design.
  • Assist in the development of robust tender packages and construction-ready documentation for mining infrastructure.
  • Ensure precise design continuity across all project phases to minimise redesign, avoid scope creep, and ensure constructability.
  • Provide high-level engineering administrative support, including executing calculations and organizing data using Microsoft Excel.
  • Draft, edit, and format comprehensive engineering documents and reports using Microsoft Word.
  • Track project changes and ensure early project assumptions align with final engineering outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records in the company’s document control system, admin and document formatting in word and excel.
  • Ensure all designs comply with Australian Standards, WA Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations, and specific client site standards.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Drafting, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2+ years experience in a drafting or engineering role, preferably within the mining, heavy industry, or NPI sectors.
  • Advanced skills in AutoCAD (2D/3D) with demonstrated experience creating P&IDs and PFDs is a strong advantage.
  • Excellent technical writing skills with the ability to produce clear, compliant tender documents and engineering reports.
  • Eager to learn, motivated and open to tackling new challenges.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative with problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
  • Excellent English skills (writing and speaking).

Nice to have

  • Experience with Australian WA mining standards or Non-Process Infrastructure is a huge bonus.
  • Background in modular and scalable infrastructure design.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Teams.

Benefits

  • Fully remote work environment.
  • Flexible time zone hours
  • Competitive salary paid in AUD.
  • Opportunity to work with a specialised team and grow within the business into a leader/management role.

This is a full time remote role (38 hours/week)
