Position Title:

Senior Director of Regional Solutions Initiatives

Salary Range:

Senior Director of Regional Solutions Initiatives (Grade 20, Exempt). Annual salary range: $163,368 - 204,210. This range reflects the minimum to midpoint of the grade. Salary may exceed the midpoint and will commensurate with experience.

Job Description Summary:

The Senior Director of Regional Strategic Initiatives is responsible for providing leadership, management, financial accountability, compliance, strategic planning, and directional oversight to regional strategic initiatives, including region wide partnership initiatives and primary impact initiatives. This position is directly responsible for aligning, resourcing, and reinvesting efforts to strengthen regional impact across communities and partners. The Senior Director establishes strategic direction for regional initiatives to ensure alignment with Sourcewell’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals. In partnership with the Chief Regional Solutions Officer, this position leads the development and execution of core strategic action plans, including defining structure, budget, staffing, and alignment of existing teams. The Senior Director is responsible for building and sustaining processes, partnerships, and cross-functional collaboration to effectively design and implement initiatives. This role creates scalable structures while ensuring successful ongoing execution, fostering trust-based relationships, engaging key stakeholders, and aligning resources to achieve long-term regional outcomes.

This role brings a multifaceted approach to leadership, effectively collaborating with internal colleagues while balancing the needs of the external partners we serve. The ideal candidate leads complex, dynamic initiatives, bringing diverse groups together to foster alignment and shared outcomes. The Senior Director plays a key role in expanding future partnerships and strengthening leadership capacity across the organization, while leveraging an innovative mindset and broad, forward-thinking experience to drive impactful and sustainable solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development of organizational strategy for a local organization, applying functional expertise to test the viability of the strategy and contributing creative ideas and insights to support the strategy formation process.

  • Develop tactical plans for optimizing resources and assets being managed within a significant area or department.

  • Manage a significant portion of the organization's financial management and/or control processes.

  • Develop and implement a relationship management plan for strategic, complex potential partnerships to build key relationships at local and national levels. Coordinate the engagement of own organization with the customer organization to ensure effective two-way flow of information and resolution of issues.

  • Represent the organization or institution in a variety of industry, institutional, and/or professional forums, boards, and committees, in order to promote the organization brand or efforts. Focus is on a specific smaller area of the organization, such as a sub-function or division. May involve preparation of presentations and materials for professional partnering meetings, seminars, and conferences.

  • Manage an element of the organization's strategic planning. This could involve being responsible for development or delivery or both.

  • Lead the review of existing operations and the implementation of innovation processes across the department or sub-function to ensure the required continuous improvement outcomes are delivered.

  • Identify and manage stakeholders up to and including management level, finding out their needs, issues, and concerns and reacting to them by leading and coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of organizational information and decisions.

  • Serve as ambassador for the essence of the brand and/or maintain a portfolio of brands, defining the measures used to determine brand effectiveness and using the results to inform future activities.

  • Coordinate the establishment of collaborative relationships in a highly complex environment, developing extensive internal and external networks, and facilitating strong collaboration and partnerships across the value chain.

  • Manage a significant segment of strategic partnering, ensuring robust partner identification, relationship building, and partnership agreement negotiation.

  • Champion an aligned purpose across a meaningful basket of initiatives, and operationalize that purpose by giving workers latitude to implement it.

  • Oversee a significant portion of the organization's strategic reinvestment programs, ensuring effective development, implementation, and alignment with organizational values and community needs.

  • Evaluate the capabilities of staff within the department to identify gaps and prioritize development activities. Implement the organization's formal development frameworks within the area of responsibility. Coach and mentor others to support the development of the organization's talent pool.

  • Identify and communicate the actions needed to implement the function's strategy and organizational plan within the organizational area or department; explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision, and values; motivate people to commit to these tenets and do extraordinary things to achieve local organizational goals.

  • Manage and report on performance within the department or area of responsibility; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and hold individuals accountable for achieving them; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of annual organizational objectives.

  • Manage budget plans for a department. May involve development or delivery or both.

  • Develop and propose annual organizational plans for a given area or department, ensuring alignment with strategy. Recommend financial and headcount budgets; propose organization targets, for example, revenues or other key performance indicators (KPIs); and schedule key activities/projects, ensuring integration with other elements of the organization.

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategy for an important area of responsibility within a function, anticipating complex issues, challenges, and opportunities and ensuring integration with wider functional strategy.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Managerial Experience: Experience of planning, managing and organizing resources within short / medium timescales within the overall policy framework. (Over 6 years to 10 years)

Location:

  • This is a remote position and is subject to Sourcewell's telecommuting policies and procedures.

  • Preferred applicants should reside in Minnesota and be located near or in the counties we serve (Region 5).

  • You must be able to commute throughout the region and to our Staples location at least 2-4 times per month (may require overnight stay).
