Job description

About the role:

For this position good knowledge of the Dutch language is a prerequisite.

As a Project Engineer Buildings, you play a vital role in our construction projects. You are the driving force behind the planning, organization, and development of our civil construction activities – with the main goal of ensuring an efficient and effective construction process, resulting in smooth execution. A good planner is therefore the backbone of every successful project. You will be part of our Civil Works department – the cradle of our company and still the most important division of Jan De Nul in Belgium.

What you’ll do:

Thanks to your work, all necessary materials, equipment, and people are available on site in a timely and efficient manner. You ensure that the site operates optimally every day and that the project progresses smoothly. This means you start your day early, getting in the car and driving to the construction site of the project you're responsible for. There, you meet with the site and project manager to discuss the current status and progress. Together, you coordinate detailed execution plans and production files, aligned with the project schedule and its needs.

Then it’s time to put on your boots and protective gear and walk the site. You speak with subcontractors or team leaders to see what has changed since your last visit and what’s planned for the day. If there are any issues, you figure out how to help resolve them. Later, you update the execution schedule from the site office or work on translating technical drawings into practical construction instructions.

A brief summary of your responsibilities:

  • You are responsible for the planning and organization of your project, including site setup, detailed execution methods/plans, and the timeline for implementation.

  • You prepare the technical and logistical aspects of the site. By anticipating construction scenarios in advance, you help ensure the execution phase runs as efficiently as possible. You’re essentially in the driver’s seat of the site organization.

  • You maintain contact with contractors, suppliers, and other partners. You’re the key link between all stakeholders involved in the project.

  • You translate engineering and architectural plans into practical execution drawings, taking into account the technical specifications of available materials and how they can be applied in the project.

  • You monitor project costs.

Who will you work with?

You’ll collaborate closely with your site team. You’ll also maintain regular contact with suppliers, subcontractors, team leaders, construction workers, and your colleagues at Jan De Nul’s headquarters.

What do you need?

  • You have a degree in Engineering, preferably with a specialization in Civil or Structural Engineering.

  • Already have a few years of experience? That’s a plus. But even if you’re just out of school and ready to hit the ground running, you’re more than welcome. With our comprehensive training program and strong support from your colleagues, you’ll learn quickly and hands-on.

  • You're a strong communicator and can adapt to different people and situations.

  • Technical insight is essential. You can read and interpret plans, and you understand what’s needed to keep a construction project running smoothly.

  • You thrive on variety: every day brings something new, and not knowing exactly what the day holds energizes you.

  • You’re a team player but also capable of working independently.

In short: we’re looking for a technically-minded problem-solver and planner who’s ready to take the lead on some of the most impressive construction sites in the country.

Why working for us:
Working at Jan De Nul means helping to find solutions to some of the biggest challenges of our time: from energy transition to rising sea levels to smart mobility. It means learning and working together every day, with the aim of ensuring the global quality of life for generations to come.

    • Meal vouchers and eco vouchers.
    • Company car including fuel card/charge pass within Belgium.
