Join us on our journey to build Europe's energy backbone: We at Flexa are building Europe's largest virtual power plant with currently above 100k assets signed up, aiming to breach the million in the near future. To optimize the value creation from both trading algorithms across markets and dispatching to the assets, we are looking for a forward-thinking and experienced Head of Data Science (d/f/m) who shares our vision and values. A pioneering Head of Data Science to lead and grow our Data Science team with innovation, foster talent and teamwork, and drive our offering's growth in alignment with and exceeding Flexa's strategic goals.
  • Location: Munich, Germany 
  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Salary Range: € 140.000 - 200.000 + competitive ESOP package worth mid 6 figures as of today
  • Working Mode: Office first
  • Language Requirement: C1 Level English

Your Responsibilities

  • As a disciplinary leader provide directions, coaching and support to the Data Scientists (and Data Engineers - currently 8 FTEs, plan to grow to ~15 by end of next year) chartered to Research, develop and adapt algorithms that unlock the capacity in the energy system through optimised returns in trading the flexibility of our assets
  • Actively drive talent development in the Data Science team, individually and as a team
  • A winning mentality that drives cultural change; role-model collaboration and teamwork with peers heading other teams 
  • Be responsible for the expansion and evolution of our cloud-based service offering, delivering innovation and differentiation, based on technology leadership solid fundamentals and a lean research and implementation process
  • Collaborate with the executive and leadership teams to set the vision, strategy, algorithmic roadmap and long-term goals that align with the business objectives, achieving Flexa's success
  • Fail-fast, as part of the tech leadership team, accelerating product delivery without sacrificing excellence is what we are inspired by, finding new ways of working, using technology, breaking habits, limits and ceilings. Especially for a data-science team the balance between exploration and delivery is crucial and needs to be clearly demarcated and managed
  • Foster technical excellence, drive best practices contribute to our open, data driven engineering culture
  • Building, iterating, deploying and maintaining code from scratch to excellence

Your Profile

  • Master or advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or a related field
  • 7+ years experience in Data Science of which at least 3 years in a leadership position
  • 5+ years of experience in delivering and maintaining machine learning and data science algorithms in production
  • Demonstrated success in managing and leading high-performing Data Science teams
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders as well as collaborating on deep technical concepts with your peers and team
  • Track record of successfully delivering technically advanced data products in time
  • Ability to technically and scientifically lead applied research projects, challenging our current technology choices as well as assisting in bringing the models to production
  • Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills
  • You enjoy solving problems and sparring ideas in a cross-functional team with our battery engineers, software engineers, product managers and business developers

Hi there!

I’m Sébastien Schikora, and I’ve been driving tech innovation as CTO at Entrix since June 2022 and Flexa since February 2024. My career has been a mix of exciting challenges and opportunities, with a strong focus on transforming the energy industry and reshaping how electricity grids work and the best is yet to come.

Here’s a quick snapshot of my journey so far:

  • CTO at KONUX (2018–2022): Shaped the company’s tech vision, built world-class products, and scaled technology to solve big problems.
  • Senior Manager at Tesla (2015–2018): Led the charge in developing cutting-edge energy storage systems and seamless mobile experiences.
  • VP of Product Development at NES Corporation (2014–2015): Helped launch a new company and product line, disrupting grid digitalization.
  • Echelon Corporation: Spent six years driving innovation in grid modernization and smart metering, from product management to development leadership.
  • Hewlett Packard: Before diving into energy, I spent over a decade refining enterprise software solutions.

Having spent most of my career in Silicon Valley, I bring a mindset that’s all about pushing boundaries, moving fast, and creating meaningful impact. Now based in Munich, I apply that same energy to building teams and driving innovation here in Europe.
