Job description

About the Job

AOA is hiring a Senior Frontend Engineer to help build polished, high-performing web experiences for ambitious eCommerce and SaaS clients. You will turn thoughtful designs and product direction into production-ready interfaces, bringing the care, judgment, and craft that make digital products reliable and easy to love.

This is a senior role for someone who enjoys ownership, but not isolation. We keep specifications lean because we trust strong engineers to think deeply, ask good questions, and shape the technical path forward. You will break product-level goals into clear engineering work, make sound implementation decisions, and bring the details a great frontend needs.

You will work across a portfolio of client projects, partnering with designers, product leads, backend engineers, and client-facing teammates to move work forward with clarity and care. As an AI-native agency, we use modern AI coding tools and agents to increase speed, quality, and focus, while keeping strong human judgment at the center of the final product.

You may be a strong fit if you are a senior frontend engineer who takes pride in excellent user interfaces, enjoys turning ambiguity into thoughtful implementation, communicates clearly, and wants to do high-quality work with a close-knit team that cares deeply about client outcomes.

Role Details

  • Compensation: $5,000 USD per month
  • Engagement: Contract (independent contractor)
  • Location: Remote, based in Latin America
  • Schedule: Available during standard business hours in US Central Time, for strong overlap with the team
  • Reports to: Engineering Manager

About AOA

AOA is a growing digital design and development agency that creates high-impact websites, AI-native apps, and standout eCommerce experiences for ambitious modern brands.

We partner closely with eCommerce and SaaS companies to deliver thoughtful, polished work that drives meaningful results and lasting client success. Our work spans strategy, design, development, eCommerce, conversion optimization, and custom application development.

We are a close-knit team where every person has a direct, visible impact on our clients' success and the growth of the company. We value genuine relationships, high standards, ownership, clear communication, and a true commitment to client delight.

As an AI-native agency, we use modern tools to enhance the quality, speed, and clarity of our work, while keeping human judgment, creativity, and relationships at the center.

Responsibilities

  • Key Outcome: Deliver high-quality, high-performing frontend experiences that AOA is known for, with predictability, agentic-efficiency, and collaborative ownership.
  • Build production-grade frontend experiences for enterprise accounts in React and Next.js.
  • Write clear technical documentation, schemas, and architectural flows teammates can use.
  • Turn product-level objectives into clear, actionable engineering tasks and own the technical approach.
  • Translate Figma designs into reusable component libraries and design-system primitives that help the team ship faster.
  • Bring frontend craft from the start and build for performance by default.
  • Connect interfaces to backend and third-party APIs, handling loading, errors, empty states, and partial data.
  • Plan and sequence your work across multiple client projects, bringing recommendations rather than open-ended problems.
  • Proactively identify risks and gaps, and create spike tickets to de-risk them ahead of the work.
  • Write tested, maintainable TypeScript that follows each client codebase’s conventions.
  • Self-review your work and catch issues before QA.
  • Conduct code reviews and hold the bar on quality across the work you review.
  • Use AI coding tools and agents thoughtfully while keeping engineering judgment in control.
  • Self-manage and take ownership of your commitments and deliver what you planned for the cycle.
  • Communicate proactively across a remote team, sharing progress and surfacing risks early.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years building production frontend applications, with deep, current React expertise.
  • Strong experience on enterprise-grade accounts, products, or projects.
  • Prior experience working in an agency environment and as an independent contractor, with the ability to manage multiple clients or projects in parallel.
  • Excellent professional English, spoken and written.
  • A track record of owning frontend features end-to-end, from ambiguous requirements to production.
  • Strong frontend fundamentals: semantic HTML, modern CSS, responsive design, and browser behavior.
  • Experience translating Figma designs into accurate, responsive, accessible interfaces.
  • Experience integrating REST or GraphQL APIs and managing client and server state.
  • A strong quality discipline: typed, tested code and self-review before QA.
  • Ability to estimate your work, commit within a delivery cycle, and reliably deliver.
  • Strong written communication and proactive, independent work in a fully remote team.
  • Reliable overlap with standard US Central Time business hours.
  • Fluent, practical use of AI coding tools as part of your engineering workflow.
  • Based in Latin America and able to work as an independent contractor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with headless or eCommerce frontends, such as Shopify Hydrogen or headless commerce, in addition to SaaS.
  • Experience building or maintaining a design system or component library used across multiple products.
  • Familiarity with frontend testing and CI tooling, such as Playwright, Vitest or Jest, and Testing Library.
  • Experience working in a points-based or sprint-based delivery model.
  • A portfolio, GitHub, or code samples you can share.

You do not need to check every single box to apply. We know strong engineers bring the right experience in different ways. If you build excellent frontends in React, take real ownership of your work, and want to do it at AI-native speed, we would love to hear from you.
