Junior Bookkeeper

Location: Killarney Gardens, Cape Town, Western Cape
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time, Office-Based
Salary: R15,000 – R20,000 CTC per month, depending on experience and qualifications

About the Role

Our client, a well-established imports and distribution business based in Killarney Gardens, is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Junior Bookkeeper to join their finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a junior finance professional looking to build a long-term career in accounting and bookkeeping. Reporting directly to the Senior Bookkeeper, with oversight from the Financial Manager, the successful candidate will gain valuable exposure across a broad range of finance functions while benefiting from structured review and mentorship.

This role is designed to provide meaningful growth opportunities by taking ownership of routine processing and reporting responsibilities, allowing senior team members to focus on higher-level financial activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process daily bank transactions and bank statements
  • Compile and maintain daily financial dashboard reports
  • Process creditors by capturing supplier invoices, matching invoices to purchase orders and goods received notes, and preparing creditor reconciliations
  • Prepare bank reconciliations for review
  • Reconcile supplier statements to the general ledger and investigate discrepancies
  • Allocate customer receipts to debtor accounts
  • Administer returns and credit notes
  • Capture supplier payments and assist with payment preparation
  • Assist with VAT capture and reconciliation preparation across multiple entities
  • Process petty cash and cash receipts
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, including additions and basic depreciation calculations
  • Provide month-end support to the Senior Bookkeeper and Financial Manager

All work is reviewed by senior finance staff, making accuracy, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn essential.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday
  • 08:30 – 16:30

Additional Information

  • This is a fully office-based role with no remote working option
  • Candidates should have their own reliable transport
  • The office is located in Killarney Gardens, Cape Town, and applicants should ideally reside within a reasonable commuting distance
  • The successful candidate should be available to start as soon as possible
