Job Description

The Senior Technical Writer I is responsible for maintaining and developing user manuals and technical guides. They are expected to make decisions on how to best develop our documentation, while also coaching newer team members. The overall accuracy of written technical content largely falls under the Senior Technical Writer’s responsibilities. This is a full-time position with remote opportunities available.

Responsibilities

  • Creating clear and concise original technical content; frequently taking highly abstract concepts and grounding them in relatable language

  • Reviewing content changes submitted by the writing team, as well as external authors, with an emphasis on technical accuracy, leaning on subject matter experts as needed

  • Overseeing the writing team’s ticketing workflow, ensuring product changes are properly reviewed and follow up tasks are created

  • Taking lead roles on projects of moderate complexity

  • Independently balancing writing team tasks with cross-divisional initiatives

  • Overseeing content organization, advising other writers on strategies and approaches for document presentation

  • Collecting audience feedback on our documentation to update existing content and develop new content ideas

  • Coaching new team members on writing best practices

  • Managing and administering written content delivery platforms, such as version control systems

  • Working with management to develop and enforce department policies and standards

  • Performing any other duties as assigned by documentation leadership

  • Must complete Ignition Core Certification within a month of hire; preferably able to pass Gold Certification within six months of hire

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English with a technical writing emphasis, or Computer Science degree/equivalent certificate highly preferred

  • 4+ years of experience in a technical writer position

  • Experience with written content editing software: Word, Confluence, Framemaker, etc

  • Experience with Markdown, or similar markup languages

  • Familiarity with a coding language (Python, Java, C++, etc.)

  • Familiarity with Git

  • Familiarity with CSS

  • Positive interpersonal communication skills
