The Senior Director, Strategy & Operations – EMD Franchise is an enterprise-minded, cross-functional leader accountable for defining, owning and executing the multi-year strategic plan for the Epilepsy & Movement Disorders portfolio. The role integrates insights & leads functions including across Market Access, Commercial, Medical, Finance, and Global partners to drive 3–5 year strategies, portfolio trade-off decisions, and operational frameworks that translate strategy into measurable business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Strategy, Long‑Range Planning & Governance
Lead the 3–5 year EMD franchise strategy planning, including scenario planning, risk/opportunity assessment, and integration into corporate Long‑Range Planning (LRP) and brand forecasts.
Define and drive portfolio tradeoff priorities at the franchise level, synthesizing cross-functional insights across Commercial, Market Access, Medical, and Operations to inform executive decision-making and optimize strategic outcomes.
Lead the most critical organizational, financial, and operational cross-functional priorities/tactics for the franchise.
Serve as a strategic partner to the Head of EMD, proactively surfacing business‑critical insights and solutions to shape optimal business outcomes
EMD Market Strategy
Integrate evolving external market dynamics (competitive entrants, evolved distribution, field team composition, etc.) into EMD strategic options and design plans in partnership with cross-functional EMD leaders.
Orchestrate with Analytics & Competitive Intelligence to assess external market events and quantify impacts on franchise strategy, forecasts, and performance.
Launch Excellence & Operational Frameworks
Define the strategic launch framework for EMD (pre/peri/post‑launch), aligning objectives, milestones, and KPIs across Marketing, Market Access, Field Leadership, Medical, and other stakeholders to ensure operational excellence and measurable outcomes.
Cross‑Functional Leadership & Enterprise Alignment
Set direction for enterprise decision-making forums, distilling complex, ambiguous challenges into actionable insights that inform executive-level decisions and strategic priorities.
Lead enterprise change strategy and communications for critical initiatives, ensuring organizational alignment, rapid adoption, and sustained business impact across the EMD franchise.
Capability Building & Team Leadership
Lead and develop a high‑performing strategy & operations team, including program leaders and (as needed) training leaders, to elevate strategic capability, executional rigor, and cross‑functional collaboration across the franchise.
Align with HR and functional leaders to ensure talent development, learning principles, and ways of working support EMD strategic priorities and culture.
Success Measures (Examples)
Successful initiation, planning, & execution of key strategic, cross-functional initiatives to drive growth & business performance
Evidenced portfolio trade‑off decisions via steering committee outputs and decision logs; measurable impact on speed/quality of decisions.
Launch KPI attainment (access milestones, field readiness, customer engagement metrics) and continuous improvement via QBRs.
Required Qualifications
12+ years of pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical experience spanning strategy, commercial operations, and/or market access, with a track record leading cross‑functional initiatives in a matrixed environment.
Demonstrated ability to develop and interpret data and insights and translate analyses into strategic recommendations for senior leadership.
Exceptional communication, influence, and facilitation skills; proven experience framing complex problems and driving decisions across senior stakeholder groups.
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA or related) preferred.
Approximately 15–20% travel.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Neurology and/or rare disease markets.
Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word; experience with Tableau or equivalent analytics tools.

Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices and we strive to provide employees with total compensation packages that are market competitive. For this role, the full and complete base pay range is:
$232,000.00 - $348,000.00Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, and other pertinent factors. The goal is to ensure fair and competitive compensation aligned with the candidate's expertise and contributions, within the established pay framework and our Total Compensation philosophy. Internal equity considerations will also influence individual base pay decisions. This range will be reviewed on a regular basis.
At Jazz, your base pay is only one part of your total compensation package. The successful candidate may also be eligible for a discretionary annual cash bonus or incentive compensation (depending on the role), in accordance with the terms of the Company's Global Cash Bonus Plan or Incentive Compensation Plan, as well as discretionary equity grants in accordance with Jazz’s Long Term Equity Incentive Plan.
