Job description

Voleon is a technology company that applies state-of-the-art AI and machine learning techniques to real-world problems in finance. For nearly two decades, we have led our industry and worked at the frontier of applying AI/ML to investment management. We have become a multibillion-dollar asset manager, and we have ambitious goals for the future.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will shape how our business operates at its core, partnering with teams across the company to identify inefficiencies, design solutions, and build the automation that powers our essential workflows. You'll work across a broad technology stack, owning projects end-to-end from discovery through delivery, and leaving a direct mark on the reliability and experience of the systems our people depend on every day.

The Team

The FinOps Automation Engineering team sits within Voleon's Software Platform organization alongside teams that own our data infrastructure, developer experience, and compute platform. Our primary customers are our financial operations teams, who are responsible for trade accounting, cash reconciliation, regulatory reporting, and investor-facing analytics. They do precision work where accuracy and timeliness matter enormously. Our mission is to eliminate the manual, error-prone parts of their workflows so they can focus on what only humans can do.

The kinds of problems we work on include:

  • Automating data ingestion from external counterparties and reconciling it against internal records.

  • Building pipelines that generate regulatory and investor reports without manual intervention.

  • Developing internal platforms and self-service tools that give our financial teams direct access to the data they need.

  • Integrating with HR, compliance, and financial systems to automate operational workflows across the firm.

  • Migrating one-off scripts and ad hoc processes into a shared, maintainable data layer.

Beyond individual automations, the team is increasingly building full vertical products such as unified data platforms, internal APIs, and user-facing interfaces that give our financial teams entirely new capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of full-stack products from data layer through to user-facing interface, particularly as the team expands into new platform areas

  • Design and build data pipelines, internal tools, and automation systems that serve Voleon's financial operations teams.

  • Integrate with enterprise systems including our accounting platform, broker data feeds, and internal APIs.

  • Build reconciliation frameworks and monitoring tools that give our teams confidence in their data.

  • Work directly with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into well-scoped, well-built solutions.

  • Mentor junior engineers and help the team level up on design, testing, and delivery practices.

  • Evaluate and adopt new tools thoughtfully. We've recently explored Tableau, SQLMesh, MCP servers, and LLM-assisted workflows.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of backend and/or data engineering experience.

  • Exceptional verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly.

  • Proven ability to design, develop, and deploy back-end applications based on provided specifications.

  • Strong stakeholder communication skills, effectively engaging with individuals at varying levels of technical fluency.

  • Excellent project management abilities, including setting realistic timelines, communicating progress, and delivering on commitments.

  • Collaborative mindset, with enthusiasm for working in diverse teams.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.

  • Authorization to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with modern deployment and build tooling, such as Kubernetes, Bazel, Apache Airflow, etc.

  • Familiarity with data warehousing or data modelling tools (DBT, SQLMesh).

  • Experience designing and building applications aimed towards non-technical stakeholders.
