Global Head of AI (Rapidly growing consumer tech firm)

*Mandarin professional working level proficiency (HSK 5 and above) is required due to frequent communication with North Asian stakeholders

Responsibilities

AI Strategy & Organizational Leadership
- Define and execute the company’s global AI vision, strategy, and long-term technology roadmap.
- Partner with executive leadership to identify high-impact AI opportunities across products, customer experiences, operations, growth, and platform capabilities.
- Build, scale, and lead a world-class AI organization spanning:
- AI Engineering
- Machine Learning Engineering
- Data Science
- Applied Research
- AI Product
- Platform Engineering
- Drive AI adoption across the organization, ensuring alignment with business objectives and measurable commercial outcomes.
- Establish engineering excellence, governance frameworks, responsible AI practices, security standards, and operational scalability.

Recommendation, Search & Personalization
- Lead the development of intelligent systems powering user engagement, customer experiences, and business growth, including:
- Recommendation systems
- Personalization engines
- Search and discovery platforms
- Retrieval systems
- Ranking and re-ranking algorithms
- User intent modelling
- Real-time decisioning systems
- Feedback loop optimization
- Experimentation platforms
- Lifecycle engagement and retention frameworks

Generative AI & Agentic AI
- Drive the next generation of AI-powered capabilities, including:
- Large Language Model (LLM) applications
- Enterprise AI assistants
- Conversational AI experiences
- Agentic AI workflows
- Multi-agent systems
- Enterprise knowledge platforms
- RAG-based solutions
- AI copilots
- Intelligent automation systems
- AI-enhanced operational tooling

AI Platform & Infrastructure
- Develop scalable AI infrastructure supporting model training, deployment, evaluation, monitoring, governance, and lifecycle management.
- Build reusable AI services and platform capabilities to accelerate AI adoption across the organization.
- Establish best-in-class MLOps, AI Operations, and AI Engineering practices.
- Drive adoption of AI-native software development workflows and engineering productivity tooling.

Business Impact & Product Innovation
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Operations, Commercial, Customer Experience, and Executive Leadership teams to:
- Improve user engagement and retention
- Enhance customer experiences through personalization
- Drive intelligent automation and operational efficiency
- Unlock new revenue opportunities through AI-enabled products
- Accelerate innovation through AI-native capabilities
- Translate AI investments into measurable business outcomes

Requirements

Required
- Bachelor’s Degree or above in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or related disciplines.
- 10+ years of experience within Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Applied AI Engineering, or related fields.
- Proven experience deploying AI systems into large-scale production environments serving millions of users.
- Deep expertise in recommendation systems, personalization, search, ranking, intelligent decisioning, or related AI domains.
- Strong experience building and deploying production-grade LLM applications and modern AI workflows.
- Experience designing scalable AI platforms, MLOps ecosystems, AI infrastructure, or enterprise AI tooling.
- Strong product mindset and demonstrated ability to connect AI initiatives to measurable business impact.

Leadership & Organizational Scale (Mandatory)
- Demonstrated experience leading large-scale AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, or Applied AI organizations within global technology companies.
- Experience managing managers and leaders.
- Proven track record leading multi-layered organizations where multiple team leaders or department heads report directly into the candidate.
- Experience managing organizations comprising multiple independent teams across areas such as AI Engineering, Machine Learning, Data Science, Recommendation Systems, Search, Personalization, Platform Engineering, AI Infrastructure, MLOps, or Applied Research.
- Experience leading organizations of approximately 30+ professionals, with strong preference for candidates who have managed 50-100+ person organizations through a managers-of-managers structure.
- Demonstrated success building organizations from the ground up, scaling teams internationally, and developing future leaders.
- Experience operating at executive leadership level with responsibility for strategy, investment decisions, organizational design, talent planning, and cross-functional alignment.

Highly Preferred
- Experience building consumer-facing AI products serving large-scale user ecosystems.
- Background in recommendation systems, personalization, search, growth AI, conversational AI, customer engagement platforms, or intelligent decisioning systems.
- Experience within high-scale consumer internet, fintech, e-commerce, gaming, marketplace, social media, streaming, or super-app environments.
- Experience leading global teams distributed across multiple regions and time zones.
- Experience building AI platforms, AI infrastructure, AI-native development environments, or enterprise AI capabilities.
- Experience operating within fast-paced, high-growth international technology organizations.

Language Requirement
- Mandarin Chinese is mandatory due to frequent collaboration with senior stakeholders, product leaders, and engineering teams across Greater China and the broader APAC region.
