Job Title: Digital Architect
Location: Remote within Canada (Occasional travel within Alberta if required)
Duration: 12 Months (Extension up to 24 Months Possible)
Work Schedule: Full-Time (7.25 Hours/Day)

Pay Rate - $65/hr CAD on Incorporation

Role Overview

We are seeking experienced Digital Architects to support large-scale digital transformation, service innovation, modernization, and enterprise architecture initiatives within a public sector environment. The Digital Architect will work closely with cross-functional agile product teams to design and deliver secure, scalable, citizen-centric digital services aligned with enterprise architecture standards and modern software engineering practices.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of software architecture expertise, technical leadership, agile delivery experience, and business acumen while collaborating with product owners, developers, UX/service designers, and stakeholders across multiple initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Architecture & Digital Transformation

• Lead solution architecture and technical design for digital service delivery initiatives.
• Develop scalable, secure, and user-centric architecture solutions aligned with enterprise standards and agile delivery principles.
• Analyze existing systems, identify modernization opportunities, and define future-state architecture.
• Provide architecture recommendations, technical discovery support, prototypes, and feasibility assessments.
• Assess solution impacts, dependencies, risks, and integration considerations.

Agile Delivery & Technical Leadership

• Guide cross-functional agile product teams through iterative delivery and sprint-based execution.
• Support backlog refinement, sprint planning, technical prioritization, and release management activities.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, architecture governance, and code review guidance.
• Contribute hands-on development support when required to implement technical tasks and user stories.
• Ensure alignment with coding standards, reusable components, common platforms, and enterprise architecture principles.

Integration & Platform Architecture

• Design and manage APIs, RESTful services, and system integrations.
• Define system boundaries, integration patterns, and service interaction strategies.
• Support modernization and incremental transformation of legacy systems into modern cloud-enabled digital platforms.
• Identify opportunities for reuse of common services, components, and enterprise capabilities.

DevSecOps & Cloud Engineering

• Support implementation of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and secure development practices.
• Contribute to containerization, orchestration, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud-native architecture initiatives.
• Ensure architectural alignment with security, compliance, scalability, and operational requirements.

Communication & Stakeholder Collaboration

• Translate technical concepts into clear business-friendly communication for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Prepare architecture documentation, diagrams, presentations, and technical materials.
• Collaborate with business teams, leadership, architects, developers, UX/service designers, and operational stakeholders.
• Participate in continuous improvement of architecture practices, standards, and governance processes.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.

Mandatory Experience

• 5+ years of experience as a Software or Digital Architect leading architecture, design, and delivery of enterprise digital solutions.
• 5+ years leading or supporting cross-functional agile product delivery teams.
• 4+ years experience defining and communicating solution architecture to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• 5+ years strong communication and stakeholder engagement experience.
• 2+ years experience working with teams applying UX design, service design, or human-centered design approaches.

Technical Skills

• Strong experience with software architecture, enterprise integration, and digital service delivery.
• Experience designing and managing RESTful APIs and enterprise integrations.
• Experience with cloud platforms, microservices, containerization, and modern application architectures.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
• Experience modernizing legacy systems into scalable digital platforms.
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases.
• Understanding of secure development practices and architecture governance.

Nice to Have

• Experience working within public sector digital transformation environments.
• Experience with citizen-centric digital services and enterprise modernization initiatives.
• Experience with cloud-native platforms, infrastructure-as-code, and orchestration technologies.
• Experience supporting enterprise architecture governance and standards development.
• Exposure to compliance, security clearance, or regulated environments.

Work Environment

• Primarily remote role within Canada.
• Occasional travel to Alberta may be required based on project needs.
• Candidates must be eligible to obtain required security clearances if requested.
