Solution Developer, Global Sovereign Solutions
Job Description
A perfect storm of geopolitical and technological forces is reshaping the European digital landscape. At SUSE, we believe the future of digital sovereignty must be built on the transparent, collaborative, and secure foundation of open source.
The Global Sovereign Solutions team is a strategic unit within the CEO’s office. We define the direction for sovereignty-related initiatives across the entire SUSE portfolio. We are looking for a highly versatile Solution Developer to join us. In this role, you will not just build software; you will build the "spark" that drives innovation across our global engineering organization. You will take strategic sovereign themes and turn them into tangible, deliverable solutions that eventually land within our core product teams.
The Role: From Concept to Organizational Landing
As a Solution Engineer, you operate at the intersection of high-level strategy and hands-on delivery. Your mission is to develop initial sovereign solutions, ranging from automated compliance tools to domain-specific OS tuning, and navigate them through fast iteration cycles until they are ready to be integrated into SUSE’s broader product landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Development & Iteration: Build working versions of sovereign infrastructure solutions. You will work in rapid cycles, utilizing AI and modern frameworks to move from a strategic requirement to a functional deliverable.
Organizational Integration (The "Landing" Model): When a solution is ready for scale, you will "land" with core engineering teams (e.g., ECM, Edge, or SLES) for 3 to 6 months. You will act as the lead contributor to ensure the initiative is successfully integrated and launched within the specific product unit.
Strategic Technical Execution: Translate sovereign policy and market needs into technical specifications. You don't just think in silos; you think about the entire SUSE stack, identifying where sovereignty-native features (like observability or immutability) should be baked into the kernel or the orchestration layer.
End-to-End Versatility: You own the output. This includes writing clean, maintainable code, setting up deployment pipelines, and producing the documentation necessary for other teams to take over and scale your work.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: While reporting to the Global Sovereign Solutions team, you will collaborate daily with product managers and engineers across the company to ensure your solutions align with SUSE’s long-term technical roadmap.
Required Qualifications
The "Broad-Spectrum" Engineer: 5–6 years of experience in high-velocity technical environments. Ideally, you have a background in a startup or a boutique consultancy where you were responsible for solving complex problems independently.
Technical Stack:
Languages: Strong proficiency in Go (Golang) and javascript are essential. Experience with Python and Vue.js for full-stack prototyping is highly valued.
Infrastructure: Mastery of Kubernetes, Containers, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi).
Cloud Native: Deep experience deploying and managing applications across various cloud providers and on-premise environments.
Independence and Resilience: You are a "self-starter" who can operate in a flat hierarchy. You are comfortable navigating organizational friction and turning technical challenges into clear, deliverable paths forward.
Communication & Documentation: Excellent verbal and written English. You can explain the "why" behind your architectural choices and create the documentation required for a seamless hand-off to production teams.
Location and Logistics
Remote-First: This is a remote role based in Europe.
Time Zone: You should be based in a time zone ranging from CET-1 to CET+1.
Collaboration: While we work remotely, we value face-to-face synergy. You will travel to meet the team at least once per quarter for intensive working sessions and strategic alignment.
