Job description

A Little Bit About Us

Saphetor’s mission is to enable anyone to find, share and use the most comprehensive human genome data and to collaborate to improve health and lives around the world.

To do this we have built the VarSome suite of bioinformatic tools, the world’s leading resource for analysis and interpretation of human genome variant data, with more than 6 000 citations in scientific papers, and over 60 000 registered professional users. Our customers work around the globe across academic, clinical, and industry laboratories analysing NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) data for research and diagnostic purposes.

Saphetor is a Swiss precision medicine company with offices in Lausanne (CH), Boston (USA), and Athens (GR) employing a diverse global workforce.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior QA Engineer to join our Technology division. Standing at the intersection of clinical software quality and bioinformatics, you will drive and elevate the quality assurance process for our VarSome platform — from defining test requirements and building automation frameworks to mentoring junior engineers and signing off on releases. You will play a key role in ensuring that our fast-moving development cycle never compromises the clinical precision our customers depend on.

We thrive in a high-pressure, high-performance environment where clinical precision and rapid growth meet. While our pace is fast, it is always directed by rigorous organization and clear processes, ensuring that our commitment to quality is never compromised by our drive for speed.

Role Responsibilities

  • Test Execution & Automation: Conduct automation and manual testing, while continuing to develop our automation suite and embed this within our development process. Develop new testing frameworks where necessary.
  • Product Life-cycle: Participate in the full product development life-cycle: defining test requirements at the start of a project, tracking and managing test issues, ensuring that the software meets its acceptance criteria, and signing off on releases for quality purposes.
  • Platform Expertise: Gain in depth knowledge of our clinical platform, which enables fast and accurate variant detection, annotation, and interpretation of NGS data for whole genomes, exomes, and gene panels to give the highest quality to our customers.
  • Documentation & Coverage: Write concise documentation, review test documentation, and revise older test cases to achieve greater testing coverage.
  • Mentorship: Mentor  QA engineers and promote best testing practices across the team.

The Ideal Candidate (Profile)

The ideal candidate combines strong software quality engineering expertise with a meticulous, detail-oriented mindset. You should be able to design, implement, and maintain robust test frameworks, while possessing the communication and collaboration skills necessary to work effectively within an engineering team.

What you will bring:

  • Education: BSc and/or MSc Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other STEM degrees.
  • Expertise: At least 4 years of experience in Quality Assurance, focusing on test automation, including designing, implementing, and maintaining test frameworks and test cases.
  • Automation & Programming: Programming experience with Python and hands-on experience with Selenium WebDriver and test frameworks such as Pytest.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with test management/documentation tools (e.g., TestRail, QC) and working knowledge of API testing tools (e.g., Postman, SoapUI).
  • Languages: Fluency in English (written and spoken).

Strongly Valued

  • Bioinformatics Knowledge: A BSc and/or MSc Degree in Bioinformatics is considered a plus.
  • Project Management: The ability to manage a project end-to-end.

Mindset & Key Skills

  • Technical Rigor: Strong analytical skills, high motivation, and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Self-Organization: Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Flexibility & Teamwork: A flexible team player and a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual.

While our foundation is in Athens, our talent pool is spread across Europe, with a strong culture of remote collaboration. Our team is highly experienced in distributed Agile workflows and communicates exclusively in fluent English.

Your career journey with us includes, among others:

  • A position in a fascinating healthcare growth domain, at the cutting edge of technology and research
  • competitive compensation package tailored to your unique expertise and professional background.
  • remote-first work environment that promotes a healthy work-life balance
