The Impact Finance & Markets division at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) provides technical and strategic leadership to create transformational impact with the private sector by translating the value of nature and conservation approaches into actionable, science-based strategies that can help solve societal challenges. The Corporate Engagement Business Unit is one of four business units comprising the Impact Finance & Markets division. The Partnership Advisor, Water & Resilience plays a key role in the development and implementation of one or more strategies to achieve the Conservancy’s goals through interaction with governments, multilateral agencies, and the corporate sector. The Partnership Advisor, Water & Resilience will report to the Senior Corporate Engagement Advisor, Water & Resilience. This position will advise on strategy development for the Resilient Freshwater Pathway and develop and manage key relationships in support of related strategies.
Note: This is a 2-year term limited position with possibility of extension based on budget availability and performance. Candidates may be located in any location with an established TNC office.

The Partnership Advisor, Water & Resilience works with an interdisciplinary team to serve as a subject matter expert and advisor on complex and strategic issues. They implement and coordinate engagements that, by facilitating the integration of nature into business models and development finance institution (DFI) operations, help direct private-sector and public financial institution economic, operational, and political influence in support of the Conservancy’s conservation goals. They support the development and implementation of strategies for engaging water utilities and DFIs; coordinate and conduct outreach to water utilities and DFIs; and manage and support specific engagements. They coordinate across the Conservancy network to develop unified proposals, strategies, and reports for water utilities and DFIs. The Corporate Engagement Advisor, Water & Resilience will lead activities to help build both internal and external awareness about the Conservancy’s work on water with water sector allies. They will work closely with members of the global Provide Food & Water team, Impact Finance & Markets Division and other Business Units to advance the implementation of the Conservancy’s resilient freshwater-related strategies.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
May supervise a team of administrative and/or professional staff with responsibility for performance management, training and development.
Applies a varied knowledge of practices to support Conservancy strategies.
Supports program objectives by working in a complex, matrixed organization environment and works collaboratively within a cross-functional interdisciplinary team.
Develops relationships and works effectively with corporate, finance, government, community, and non-governmental organization partners. May serve as relationship manager to specific institutions and support other engagements.
Acts independently within broad program goals. Leads management of multiple projects. May be point person for a value chain node or sector.
Manages DFI trainings and engagements, in collaboration with the Nature for Water Facility under Provide, including potential to serve as a Subject Matter Expert on key DFI or corporate engagements.
Develops and implements multi-year fundraising strategies and goals. Financial responsibility may include working within/managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, assisting with budget development and meeting fundraising targets.
Participates in negotiations for complex, high profile or sensitive agreements.
Conducts research to inform the Corporate Engagement and Resilient Watersheds’ teams functional strategy and activities. Plays an active role in team brainstorming and recommendation development regarding team structure and strategic planning and may have decision-making authority. Contributes to tracking of Resilient Watersheds Intermediate Results.
May lead internal and external discussion to develop institution-level strategies (e.g., for a specific company or DFI), including informing CE's sector strategies. May play a role in helping to inform broader CE sector or DFI strategic focus across other Business Units.
With a team, designs and manages major meetings, including gatherings of corporate, government, and non-governmental representatives (e.g., participation in Stockholm World Water Week).
Leads the preparation and presentation of project proposals, communications documents, presentations, memos, concept notes, budgets and reports.
Persuasively conveys the mission of TNC to varied groups who are critical to the Conservancy’s overall strategies. Will represent TNC/CE at external speaking events relevant to their projects and/or General CE. Will represent CE/their team at internal events/retreats.
Works in partnership with other organizations in a collaborative and advisory capacity. Represents TNC in collaborations like the International Water Association, WaterWorx/Blue Deal, and other initiatives as they arise. May serve on advisory boards.
Ensures compliance with internal policies and procedures and external requirements.
Bachelor’s degree in political science, environmental policy, management or other relevant field and 5 years of development finance institution, government relations or corporate sector experience, or equivalent combination education/experience.
Fluency in English.
Analytical and project management experience. Demonstrated experience in successfully developing and implementing complex projects in an unstructured environment.
Experience developing, directing and managing multiple projects and implementing strategic program goals.
Proven communication and presentation skills.
Proven negotiation skills.
Multi-lingual skills, especially French, and multi-cultural experience appreciated.
Experience presenting to and communicating with management-level individuals within the corporate sector.
Excellent team player with experience working in multi-disciplinary groups, using influence and interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships with governments, corporations, partners, donors, volunteers, and all levels of staff.
Experience engaging in drought, flooding, disaster risk management or private financial institutions.
