Reporting to the Senior Manager, L&D Design, the Design Consultant is responsible for working with internal L&D partners, business and HR stakeholders to consult, assess learning needs, recommend solutions and design and/or oversee resources responsible for designing high quality, multi-modal blended learning solutions on a variety of complex learning projects that support strategic business and people priorities.
Job requirements
Leads end‑to‑end learning consulting on complex, high‑impact initiatives, including needs analysis, solution strategy, and instructional design planning.
Designs and delivers scalable learning solutions (e.g., programs, frameworks, performance support tools) that drive measurable business outcomes.
Owns and leads large, cross‑functional design/development projects from inception through implementation, managing scope, timelines, risks, and stakeholder alignment across multiple concurrent initiatives, in partnership with the project manager.
Leads and coordinates the work of cross-functional design and development resources, setting direction, aligning work, and driving high‑quality execution.
Ensures all learning solutions meet enterprise standards for quality, brand, accessibility and inclusion, leveraging established templates and best practices.
Drives the adoption and continuous improvement of best‑in‑class design practices and processes, informed by external trends and performance consulting expertise.
Influences and partners with senior stakeholders to shape learning strategies, solve complex business problems, and advance a “One TD” approach to learning design and delivery.
Builds team capability through onboarding, coaching, mentorship, and knowledge sharing across L&D.
Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
Consultative Business Partnering – Confident and credible, collaborative partnering with Learning Solution Architects and other stakeholders. Adept at interacting with diverse groups of internal clients, external vendors, and demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders internal and external at all levels in the organization.
Executional Excellence – demonstrates global and organizational awareness, change management leadership, judgement and decision making, influence, operational excellence. Proven track record of delivering results and commitment to operational and service excellence.
Business of HR – Subject matter expert in instructional design/development consultation and principles of adult learning; moderate knowledge of practice of project management.
Well-developed critical thinking, business acumen, analytical and problem solving skills.
Highly developed communication skills (verbal and written). Experience informing or executing enterprise level communications for internal stakeholders and target audience.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
Experience leading and supporting enterprise level program and/or curriculum is an asset.
Proven experience and success in change management leadership is an asset.
Specific Educational Requirements/Accreditations:
Relevant Learning & Development certification/degree is an asset (i.e., CTDP, Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, eLearning design/development, etc.)
7+ years related experience in Learning & Development, particularly in the areas of instructional design/development and performance consulting
Post graduate education in Adult Learning & Development preferred
