The Director, National Fulfillment is responsible for leading and optimizing Zurn Elkay’s national distribution and fulfillment operations across North American distribution centers. This role ensures safe, efficient, cost‑effective, and customer‑centric fulfillment of finished goods to support Zurn Elkay’s building products and water solutions business.
This leader sets the strategy for warehousing, order fulfillment, inventory deployment, and outbound logistics while driving continuous improvement, standardization, and scalability across the network. The role partners closely with Manufacturing, Transportation, Customer Service, Sales, and Planning to meet service and financial goals.
Key Responsibilities
Network & Operational Leadership
- Provide overall leadership for three distribution centers, including site leaders and salaried/hourly teams
- Establish consistent operating standards, KPIs, and best practices across all facilities
- Drive a strong safety‑first culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA and company safety standards
- Ensure facilities meet productivity, quality, and service level targets
- Provide operational governance and visibility through standard work, exception management, and performance review cadences that surface root causes (missed pickups, rehandles, claims) and convert them into CI actions across Fulfillment and Transportation
- Enable Transportation cost‑out and service targets by partnering with Logistics on carrier compliance, shipment optimization, consolidation, and adherence to ship calendars and CD0 commitments, ensuring fulfillment execution supports negotiated rates and network strategy.
Fulfillment & Customer Service Performance
- Own end‑to‑end fulfillment performance, including order accuracy, on‑time shipment, and cycle time
- Align fulfillment capabilities to customer requirements across channels (wholesale, project‑based, direct ship, etc.)
- Partner with Customer Care and Sales to resolve service issues and support key accounts
- Drive cross‑dock and service‑center execution discipline by aligning labor planning, wave release, inventory positioning, and load readiness to Transportation requirements (OTP/OTD, mode optimization, reduction in expedites, etc).
Inventory & Capacity Management
- Collaborate with Supply Planning and Manufacturing to optimize inventory placement and deployment across the DC network
- Balance service levels with working capital objectives
- Lead seasonal and demand‑driven capacity planning
Continuous Improvement & Transformation
- Lead continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives across the fulfillment network
- Identify and implement automation, material handling, and WMS improvements
- Drive labor productivity, space utilization, and cost‑per‑unit improvements
Financial & Business Management
- Own the fulfillment operating budget and cost performance
- Develop business cases for capital investments (automation, expansions, technology)
- Deliver cost‑to‑serve improvements while maintaining service excellence
Talent & Culture
- Build, coach, and retain high‑performing DC teams
- Support succession planning and leadership development
- Champion organizational change and engagement initiatives
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Build and maintain a strong partnership with various functional areas, including but not limited to Transportation, IT, Engineering, Procurement, and HR
- Support network design evaluations, new product introductions, and acquisitions as needed
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- On‑time delivery (OTD)
- Order accuracy
- DC labor productivity and cost per unit shipped
- Inventory turns and accuracy
- Safety metrics (incident rate, near‑miss reporting)
- Employee engagement and retention
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, Business, or related field (MBA preferred)
- 10+ years of progressive distribution/warehouse leadership experience, including multi‑site responsibility
- Proven experience leading national or regional fulfillment operations
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing large operating budgets
- Demonstrated success in Lean, continuous improvement, or transformation initiatives
- Experience with WMS platforms and distribution technology
- Ability to travel to distribution centers and corporate locations
