Job description

Job Summary::

The AI Engineer will support the International Trade Administration (ITA) AI Center of Excellence (AI-CoE) by delivering end-to-end artificial intelligence solutions across the full system lifecycle. This role focuses on model development, data handling, deployment, optimization, and integration of AI capabilities within secure, cloud-based federal IT environments.

 

*This position is contingent upon contract award.*

Job Duties and Responsibilities: :
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy AI and machine learning models.
  • Manage data ingestion, preprocessing, validation, and feature engineering.
  • Build, deploy, and maintain AI infrastructure and pipelines.
  • Optimize model performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Automate workflows and integrate AI solutions with enterprise systems.
  • Monitor models in production and implement continuous improvements.
  • Collaborate with product owners, developers, and data teams in SAFe Agile environments.
  • Ensure solutions align with federal security, compliance, and governance requirements.
  • Maintain technical documentation and operational runbooks.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements (Education/Skills/Experience)::
  • U.S. Citizenship (required). Ability to obtain and maintain a NACI or higher background investigation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 2 years experience
  • Experience across the AI system lifecycle including development and deployment.
  • Proficiency with machine learning frameworks and programming languages.
  • Experience working in Agile or SAFe delivery environments.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a technical field.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Familiarity with MLOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools.
  • Experience supporting federal or public-sector IT programs.
  • Knowledge of AI governance, ethics, and security best practices.

 

Work Location: Remote preferred with occasional on-site support in Washington, DC, as required.
