Job description

Our Company: We care about helping people. Our purpose is to provide help and inspire confidence in our clients and communities everywhere. Our associates feel a sense of belonging in an inclusive place with an amazing history and a sharp focus on our future. Our connected culture is who we are and how we work together to achieve our strategies, accelerate our transformation, and achieve extraordinary results. It’s an exciting time to be a part of H&R Block! What you'll do...:
As a Senior Designer, you’ll lead end-to-end design for complex, high-impact initiatives across our digital ecosystem. You’ll play a key role in defining customer problems, shaping thoughtful solutions, and partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional teams to bring those experiences to life. This role requires a strong balance of craft, strategic thinking, and adaptability - connecting customer and business outcomes, elevating design quality, and embracing new tools and ways of working to continuously improve how we deliver.

Day to day, you'll...

  • Lead end-to-end design outcomes for large, complex initiatives across our digital ecosystem, delivering modern, premium experiences that solve real customer problems
  • Identify and define epic-sized or large-initiative customer problems, shaping the right problem-solving approach and driving work forward with minimal creative direction
  • Use research, experimentation, and analytics to consistently connect customer value and business value, making clear trade-offs between short-term delivery and long-term experience health
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Analytics, and Content to define goals, map journeys and flows, prototype interactions, and launch improvements across responsive web experiences
  • Contribute to UI and UX patterns and help evolve design system components in partnership with Enterprise Capabilities (Block Design System) and Brand teams to achieve consistency at scale
  • Support squad leaders in planning and structuring sprints, ensuring design plans meet broader dependencies and elevating quality through crisp decision-making and communication
  • Create clear design documentation and compelling storytelling (workshops, critiques, reviews, presentations) that communicates rationale, outcomes, and what is needed to ship
  • Be a leader in change by adopting new tools and new ways of working quickly, helping the team learn what works, and raising overall craft and delivery quality through feedback and mentorship
  • Actively experiment with and apply vibe coding and AI-assisted design/build tools (for example, design-to-code, rapid prototyping, AI copilots) to accelerate exploration, prototyping, and delivery
  • Help shape how emerging tools fit into real product workflows, balancing speed, craft, and production quality
  • Partner with engineering to reduce translation friction between design intent and implementation, using modern tools as part of the design process, not an afterthought
  • Serve as a model for how designers can responsibly and effectively use new tools in day-to-day work, raising confidence and adoption across squads
What you'll bring to the team...:
  • 5 to 8+ years of digital or product design experience delivering responsive web experiences in close partnership with product and engineering
  • Proven ability to independently lead complex initiatives end to end, from problem framing through delivery and iteration
  • Strong experience using research, data, and testing to inform decisions, prioritize work, and measure impact
  • Experience working within and contributing to a scalable design system, including defining or refining reusable patterns and components
  • Excellent storytelling and communication skills, able to clearly articulate design decisions and align cross-functional partners
  • High attention to craft, detail, usability, and accessibility, with confidence collaborating through build reviews and handoff
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and adapting quickly to new tools, technologies, and evolving ways of working
  • Strong ability to quickly learn, evaluate, and adapt to new design, prototyping, and AI-assisted tools
  • Comfort working close to code and implementation details, with an understanding of how design decisions translate into real builds
  • A proactive mindset toward change, viewing new tools and workflows as opportunities to improve outcomes rather than disruptions to process
It would be even better if you also had...:
  • Motion design or animation experience that enhances clarity, feedback, or delight within digital experiences
  • Experience contributing to content governance strategies, including patterns, naming conventions, and consistency across pages and flows
  • Experience designing in regulated or high-trust domains such as financial services, privacy, or identity
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring designers through critique, coaching, or shared quality standards
  • A strong eye for premium brand expression in digital ecosystems, balancing brand integrity with usability and conversion
  • Hands-on experience with vibe coding, AI-assisted prototyping, or design-to-code workflows in a production or near-production environment
  • Experience helping teammates adopt new tools through examples, lightweight guidance, or informal coaching
  • A point of view on where AI and automation meaningfully support designers versus where human judgment and craft remain essential
