Job description

What We Can Achieve Together:

The Impact Finance & Markets division at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) provides technical and strategic leadership to create transformational impact with the private sector by translating the value of nature and conservation approaches into actionable, science-based strategies that can help solve societal challenges. The Corporate Engagement Business Unit is one of four units comprising the Impact Finance & Markets division. The Corporate Engagement Advisor, Agri-Food will be part of the Corporate Engagement Regenerative Food sub-team. This position will advise Corporate Engagement strategy development with the agri-food value chain and develop and manage key relationships within that industry.  

Note: This is a 2 year term limited position with possibility of extension based on budget availability and performance. Candidates must be located within 5 hours of Eastern time.

We're Looking for You:

The Corporate Engagement Advisor develops, implements, and coordinates corporate engagements that, by facilitating the integration of nature into business models, help drive private sector economic, operational, and political influence in support of the Conservancy’s conservation goals. This position will develop and implement strategies for engaging companies; coordinate and conduct outreach to companies; manage and support specific corporate engagements; conduct analysis and contribute to the Corporate Engagement team’s functional priorities. They will work closely with members of the global Provide Food & Water team and other Business Units to advance the implementation of the Conservancy’s regenerative food pathway and related activities, supporting corporate participation in on-the-ground projects, regional consortia, and innovative conservation strategies. They will approach all work with a spirit of collaboration and respect for colleagues and partners across geographies, cultures, and subject matter expertise. 

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE 

  • Develop constructive and effective working relationships inside and outside the Conservancy, including with corporate partners, other nonprofit organizations, and various teams inside The Nature Conservancy. 

  • Works collaboratively with staff from Corporate Engagement, Global Provide Food and Water and other global strategies, regional/ country staff, Global Science, Government Relations, Development/Philanthropy, and Impact Finance and Markets to ensure the programmatic work is strategically aligned and well-integrated across the organization. 

  • Serve as relationship manager to specific corporations and provide program management support on engagements. 

  • Develop and implement corporate engagement strategies. 

  • Conduct research to inform the Corporate Engagement team’s functional strategy and activities. 

  • Prepare project proposals for external parties. 

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and external requirements. 

  • May supervise administrative and professional staff with responsibility for performance management, training and development. 

  • May include working within/managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, assisting with budget development. 

  • May include fundraising activities. 

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, social/natural science, business or related field and 5 years of corporate sector or government relations experience, or equivalent combination education/experience.   

  • Working knowledge of corporate sustainability best practices in the food and water sector. 

  • Experience in agri-food sectors including consumer packaged goods companies, row crop systems, livestock management, supply chain action, and/or other related industries. 

  • Experience preparing project proposals and negotiating complex agreements or projects. 

  • Project management experience including coordinating the work of other professionals inside and outside an organization. 

  • Demonstrated relationship building skills. 

  • Proven written and verbal communication and presentation skills. 

  • Fluency in English. 

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural experience appreciated, with Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred.  

  • Direct private sector experience developing and executing corporate sustainability, ESG, or supply chain / supplier sustainability programs within a corporate or business sustainability team or procurement department in a consumer packaged good (CPG) or food company. 

  • Excellent team player with experience working in multi-disciplinary groups, using influence and interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships with corporations, governments, partners, and all levels of staff.

Salary Information:

This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity, taking into consideration legal restrictions, such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $95,000-$124,300 for annual base salary and is based on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA.

For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency, the pay range will be based on the local labor market, and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range. Additionally, for all applicants, actual pay will fall within a range based on a variety of factors including, for example, the candidate’s qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
