The Associate VP, Automation Engineering identifies and implements solutions (hardware and software) for improvement of the high-quality automation infrastructure. The Associate VP, Automation Engineering requires a in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across segments and/or enterprise-wide.

The Associate VP, Automation Engineering designs, programs, simulates, and tests automated processes, and is responsible for detailed design specifications and other documents. Decisions are typically related to intradepartmental coordination, development and implementation of strategic plans, and business outcomes, and develops and implements strategic plans for the scope of management that are aligned with the Segment or Business strategy.

The Associate Vice President (AVP), Service Simplification is responsible for leading a new, enterprise-wide service offering that supports Humana’s highest-priority transformation initiatives. This role owns a newly introduced technology platform that leverages artificial intelligence to capture, analyze, and optimize business processes at scale.

The AVP will oversee the identification, prioritization, and automation of enterprise processes, ensuring improvements deliver measurable cost reduction, operational efficiency, and enhanced associate experience. In addition, this role is accountable for enterprise software that tracks inquiries and service requests across both IT and HR, feeding integrated service desk operations.

Following process analysis, this leader determines the appropriate technology solutions and establishes prioritization for automation efforts. The role requires close collaboration with senior leaders across the enterprise to align priorities based on cost, resource availability, and business impact.

Given the scope and impact of this role, the AVP will operate with a high degree of autonomy and accountability, driving outcomes that materially improve how work is performed across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the strategy and operating approach for the enterprise service simplification offering.
  • Build and maintain a prioritized portfolio of automation and simplification opportunities, presenting recommendations to the Executive Leadership Team based on cost savings and business value.
  • Govern large-scale, enterprise systems that support process analysis, automation, and service delivery to maximize value for Humana.
  • Partner cross-functionally to identify and advance additional technology-enabled simplification opportunities.
  • Ensure automation solutions meet the highest standards of accuracy, reliability, and security, recognizing that failures could result in significant business impact.
  • Lead efforts to automate a significant percentage of business processes annually, delivering both headcount efficiencies and increased capacity for higher-value work.
  • Establish and build a new team capable of operating seamlessly from inception, while collaborating closely with technology, information security, and business partners to protect proprietary data.
  • Operate independently with minimal supervision while maintaining strong alignment with business stakeholders and senior leadership.
