Job description

LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide for employee engagement, and we’re equally proud of our strong Glassdoor score — reflecting how much our people love working here.

Join us to make a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

LET’S TELL YOU MORE

We are looking for a proactive and self‑motivated Water Network Technician to join our Water Network Operations and Leakage team in Leicestershire. You’ll be taking ownership of a designated patch of District Meter Areas (DMAs).

This is a field‑based role offering a high level of autonomy, where you can manage your own workload while playing a vital part in identifying, investigating, and reducing water leakage across the network, with a key focus on health and safety.

The role includes regular customer interaction, technical investigation, and detailed feedback to operational teams. A key objective for the team you’ll be joining is to reduce unaccounted water within your designated patch. Additionally, you will be looking to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.

You'll travel around Leicestershire, and you will be given one of our vans so you can do your job; this makes having a valid Full UK Drivers Licence an essential requirement for the role, so you are able to carry out your responsibilities!

With this being such a critical role, we’re looking for someone who can join us 40 hours a week, Mon to Fri, 7:00AM to 3:30PM. You will also participate in a standby rota.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Our ideal candidate will bring solid, hands‑on leakage experience and the confidence to apply it effectively in the field. You’ll be customer‑focused and safety‑led, able to perform calmly under pressure while consistently adding value at all levels.

With a proactive, right‑first‑time mindset, you’ll diagnose and resolve problems efficiently, balancing commercial awareness with sound cost‑benefit decision‑making. You’ll have a genuine commitment to building and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome and celebrate diverse individuals, knowing they help us better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.

HOW WE’LL REWARD AND CARE FOR YOU

It's not just a job; it's a career. We offer benefits that reward great work and award-winning training to help you reach your potential. Plus, you'll contribute to the environment and community too. Here are some of our favourites:

  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays (and the ability to buy/ sell up to 5 days per year)
  • Annual bonus scheme (of up to £1,500, which is subject to eligibility)
  • Family-friendly policies (including a year off fully paid maternity and adoption leave)
  • Leading pension scheme – we will double your contribution (up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%)
  • Sharesave – the chance to buy Severn Trent plc shares at a discounted rate
  • Dedicated training and development with our Academy
  • Electric vehicle scheme and retail offers
  • Two paid volunteering days per year
