Location: Mexico (Veracruz, Mexico City, Monterrey, Mazaltan, Monclova preferred)  

Schedule: Remote

Reports To: Area Manager Service Operations  

Travel Requirement: Up to 85% travel, both domestic and international, with a valid US visa.

Job Summary:  Hempel is seeking an experienced and technically skilled Coating Advisor to join our Technical Services team in Mexico. This role is responsible for providing technical advice and support to sales teams, as well as conducting technical analyses of product configurations to determine customer-specific pricing. Key responsibilities include preparing and conducting technical sales briefings for customers and company representatives, researching customer technical specifications, estimating the costs, resources, time, and technical requirements for modifying, configuring, and installing products or solutions, and evaluating sales proposals to ensure they are technically accurate and aligned with the organization’s quality standards. 

 

 

Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Fulfill assigned projects in accordance with the requirements of the Work Orders. 

  • Advise customers on the correct use of Hempel products and paint systems by following instructions provided in current technical documentation (Product Data Sheets, application instructions, or other relevant technical materials). 

  • Ensure compliance with agreed painting specifications, including technical standards, work procedures, and best painting practices. 

  • Keep all parties informed of work progress through Progress Reports. In case of deviations or non-conformities, notify the customer in writing, provide recommendations for preventive/corrective actions, and follow up on their implementation. 

  • Monitor and control paint inventory for the project, provide timely updates to front/back office sales, and ensure proper implementation of paint consumption planning and procedures. 

  • Conduct coating condition surveys onshore and offshore as required. 

  • Actively participate in claim handling procedures and assist in their resolution. 

  • Provide pre-sales and/or post-sales technical support to customers, including testing and maintaining products, equipment, and services; evaluate and recommend new products or equipment upgrades as needed to meet customer requirements. 

  • Monitor and resolve recurring issues to ensure ongoing customer satisfaction. 

  • Manage complex and large-scale projects effectively. 

  • Train customers on the features and application of purchased products when needed. 

  • Ensure quality and timely reporting of all work activities. 

  • Support the sales force regarding technical aspects of the company’s products and services. 

  • Complete all required reports with high quality and on time. 

  • Utilize information tools efficiently in accordance with Hempel’s procedures. 

  • Ensure all Technical Services staff equipment is used according to project procedures and specifications, and that all equipment is calibrated and in good working condition. 

  • Comply with training programs to acquire the necessary skills, knowledge, and behaviors. 

  • Travel to project sites and prepare/distribute technical reports; travel accounts for approximately 80% of working time, both domestically and internationally. 

  • Conduct work safely and responsibly, following Hempel’s HSE guidelines and the HSE procedures of each worksite. 

  • Use all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure it is always in good condition for the job 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Fluency in Spanish and English is required 

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Coating Advisor in a technical service role (rail, marine or oil and gas a plus) 

  • Experience with airless pumps & plural component preferred

  • Relevant certifications such as NACE, FROSIO, ABRACO, or IARCOR. 

  • Strong knowledge of the paint and coatings industry. 

  • Technologically proficient and comfortable using digital reporting tools. 

  • University degree in Chemistry or a related field is a plus.
