Job Description:

 

We are seeking a Managing Director to join the Assurance Professional Practice Group (Assurance PPG) leading the Firm’s Quality Management (QM) strategy for the assurance practice. This team is responsible for quality risk assessment, QC 1000 readiness, and ongoing evaluation of the system of quality management (SQM) across the assurance practice.

In this role, you will operate at the intersection of regulatory compliance, audit quality, and operational performance. You will partner closely with leadership and cross-functional teams to translate regulatory expectations (PCAOB QC 1000, AICPA SQMS, ISQM) into effective, scalable, operational approaches across the Firm’s assurance practice. This position offers broad exposure across the Firm, with frequent collaboration with firm leadership, practice offices, National Office, and significant functions including People Solutions and Technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the assessment of firm compliance with the quality standards of the PCAOB, AICPA, and IAASB.
  • Strategically employ SQM evaluation frameworks integrating monitoring and a root-cause focused sustainable remediation process.
  • Drive QC 1000 readiness and regulatory alignment across functions.
  • Propel operational accountability for processes and controls contributing to the SQM effectiveness.
  • Facilitate cross-functional coordination across audit, IT, risk, finance, governance, technology, and people teams.
  • Leverage data, technology, and analytic tools to evaluate and report on the SQM.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of technology solutions to document, maintain, and facilitate evaluation of the SQM, including document retention in compliance with regulatory and professional standards and firm policy.
  • Identify, report, and incorporate emerging risk areas into the SQM.
  • Identify and address control gaps at a firm level.
  • Annually deliver fully supported assessments of the design and effectiveness of quality management processes and controls in place, with periodic reporting in between.
  • Advise leadership on quality strategy, risk posture, and inspection readiness.
  • Coordinate and collaborate on quality management activities with other firm service lines.
  • Lead and contribute to Assurance PPG Quality Management initiatives and projects of all sizes.
  • Assist in the Peer Review and PCAOB external inspection process as it relates to providing materials related to the QM function.
  • Interact with the Peer Review team and PCAOB staff related to QM matters.
  • Represent the firm in industry groups, committees, and forums to stay current on regulatory developments and emerging trends.
  • Provide thought leadership and represent the Firm’s perspective in external discussions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting or related field required
  • Minimum of 12 years of related experience in public accounting or internal control
  • Experience in designing and implementing systems of quality management for audit firms
  • Experience successfully leading a team
  • Ability to see the “big picture” as well as attention to detail, along with a commitment to quality and confidentiality
  • Advanced level of analytical and problem-solving skills required
  • Willingness and ability to travel to office locations on occasion
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Minimum of 7 years of supervisory and training experience
  • Proven effective oral, written, and interpersonal skills required
  • Excellent organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to multitask and handle multiple priorities appropriately

The pay rate ranges for this position are listed below. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of relevant factors including but not limited to applicant’s skills, prior experience, qualifications, degrees, professional certifications, work arrangements and geographic location. Baker Tilly offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package to eligible employees.
The national pay rate range is $182,150 to $345,330
In California: pay rate range is $222,630 to $345,330
